3 Course Selection Process
Things you need to consider. Colleges & technical/trade schools like to see a challenging schedule. Are honors or AP level courses right for you? You will not be able to change courses next year. What electives interest you or will help you decide on a college or career focus? View the Program of Studies on the high school website for class descriptions Consider unique opportunities such as a dual enrollment class, cyber, or Medical Career Pathways

4 Course Selection Process
Have a conversation with your parents about what you want to take senior year and what implications that will have on college admissions and careers. Your counselor will meet with you to review your courses and make sure they are the best fit for your future plans.

5 Timeline for Course Selection
January 13th – Period 1, drag sheet distribution. Discuss with teachers what classes would be appropriate for next school year January 14th – Continue meeting with teachers. Completed drag sheets turned in to your 7th period teacher (PM UBVTS = period 4) January 15th – Input course requests in Power School during PRIDE. Bring your charged netbook. We will have a DOUBLE PRIDE day. January 19th – One on one meetings with counselors begins for juniors

11 What Colleges & Trade Schools Want To See
Your transcript will be viewed by all schools Other important aspects are ACT/SAT, activities, letters of recommendation, etc. Art schools, music programs, technical schools, etc. may require portfolios, auditions, or skill testing

*Sept, Oct, Nov, apply to schools *Oct – Apply for financial aid (FAFSA) *College rep. visits to QCHS *ACT/SAT one last time? *Apply for scholarships *Decide on a school *Down payment to reserve spot *Sign master promissory note if taking out loans *Graduate!!!!! *1 on 1 advisement meeting with counselor *Do the best you can in school *Research colleges & careers Winter Spring Fall *Research colleges *Arrange for visits *Sign up for ACT/SATs *Finish Jr year strong! *Start looking at scholarships *Review acceptances and financial aid award letters *Apply for scholarships

13 Preparing for the ACT / SAT
QCHS provides free online test prep through your NAVIANCE account. To access this test prep, login to Naviance and select the link for “Method Test Prep” on the homepage of your account. From here, sign-up for your free account and get started. You can choose to prep for ACT/SAT or both! QCHS now offers an elective class for test prepping. See the program of studies for more info.
