Presentation transcript:

Can be used to solve any problem. The Scientific Method Can be used to solve any problem.

1. The Problem Must be written in the form of a question.

2. Background Information: Information that is important to solving the problem. Written in paragraph form.

3. Hypothesis An educated guess. Is it in the “if”, “then” format?

Variables What is the independent variable? -the factor that you are changing. What is the dependent variable? - the factor that changes because of the indep. variable. What are the constants? - factors that do not change in the experiment.

4. Materials Includes everything you will need to perform the experiment

5. Procedure Step by step instructions. Read them carefully. Check for safety concerns

6. Results Complete data tables Graph your results IV on the X axis DV on the Y axis Answer any analysis questions, using complete sentences.

7. Conclusion Summarize the experiment: B. arguments based on data A. must be informative & convincing B. arguments based on data C. distinguish between observations and interpretations D. accept or reject your hypothesis with explanation. E. if experiment failed, explain. Do not use “made a mistake”
