Why You Are Here Today Finding a job is a full-time commitment. The Career Center Seminar is your opportunity to learn about the full array of services, events and programs available at all Massachusetts One-Stop Career Centers and how the services at the centers can help you: Complete an individual needs assessment Explore and understand the job market (labor market information) Understand how to get started on developing your career action plan Explore options to upgrade your skills and/or change career To help you meet your Unemployment Insurance (UI) requirements 4

The State’s Best Kept Secret Access to valuable tools, resources, and services at 32 One-Stop Career Centers in 16 Workforce Investment Areas Over 99,000 job seekers visited the One-Stop Career Centers between Jan ‘15-Dec ‘15. The average earnings of those who utilized the centers and went back to work was $40,260. More than 129,000 employment opportunities are available on Job Quest Support system of knowledgeable and experienced Career Service professionals Connection with employers and other networking opportunities 5

Career Center Workshops Dates/times/locations can be found in the center or on our website.   Call 978-825-7200 or stop by our front desk to sign up for a workshop. Our workshops run approximately 2 ½ hours. We have a five minute grace period. Anyone who shows up after five minutes once a workshop begins will be asked to reschedule. If you sign up for a workshop and cannot attend, please call ahead to cancel and/or reschedule. Workshops routinely fill up fast, sometimes a month in advance. Feel free to call the day before and the morning of a particular workshop to see if any other customers have cancelled. 8

Policy/Guideline For Using Career Center Services Child care arrangements should be made prior to your visit No food or drink in the Career Center. Computers, telephones and fax are for job/educational search purposes only. We highly recommend using a flash drive with your resume and cover letter on it. Cell phones should be turned off or muted If you cannot keep an appointment or attend a scheduled workshop, please call in advance to cancel and reschedule 9

Veterans’ Services All our Veteran Customers and Eligible Spouses are entitled to receive Priority of Service across most Career Center programs and services. Individual assistance is available for veterans with significant barriers The first step is meeting with a Job Specialist who will ask some basic questions to uncover program eligibility. If applicable, we can then refer the Veteran to our Veteran Services Representatives who are on site. Workforce Innovation & Opportunities Act (Training Funds) The federally funded Workforce Innovation & Opportunities Act (WIOA) Title I ITA program provides the possibility for individual job seekers who need occupational skills to attain paid-for training in order to successfully re-enter the workforce. Ask to speak to a Career Center Representative about obtaining possible training funds for short term training through an approved local vendor. Training needs can be identified through LMI research, job search, and/or interview processes. A Career Center Case Manager can help you with this exploratory process. Training Opportunities Program (TOP) (Also known as Section 30) Your work search requirements may be waived while attending full-time, approved training. Application must be submitted to the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) by the 20th payable week of benefits Training must be approved by DUA Training must be to enhance skills for demand driven jobs DUA does not pay for the training You may be eligible for up to an additional 26 weeks of unemployment benefits while in approved training For more information: Contact the Training Opportunities Program (TOP) unit (www.mass.gov/dua/top or 617-626-5521) Visit your local Career Center 34

National Dislocated Worker Grants (NDWGs) National Dislocated Worker Grants (NDWGs – formally National Emergency Grants) assists Dislocated Workers who are affected by large scale layoffs caused by unexpected economic events. NDWGs helps Dislocated Workers by providing funding assistance for training, career development, and job placement. 35

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) If your job has been adversely affected by foreign competition or production or the service you provided moved overseas, you may be eligible for benefits including: Financial assistance for job training Extension of Unemployment Benefits Strict deadlines apply for obtaining some of the benefits under the TAA Programs. For additional information and/or to obtain a listing of TAA certified companies ask a Career Center staff person immediately about these benefits. 36

Reemployment Services Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) If you are collecting Unemployment Insurance, as part of your eligibility to receive benefits you may be randomly selected by the Dept. of Unemployment Assistance to attend a Mandatory Reemployment Services Eligibility Assessment Reemployment Services Eligibility Assessment Follow Up: Goal – to help you become even more successful in your job search This is a one-on-one meeting with a Career Center staff member. It will last about 20-30 minutes. Your appointment has been set and will take place prior to your RESEA deadline Review of Job Search Activities Discussion around your Career Action Plan and other documents Encourage your success and listen to your progress Learn helpful strategies to meet and overcome roadblocks to reemployment Failure to attend this meeting and comply with program requirements may cause a delay or loss of your unemployment benefits. 41
