Welcome to the SSGWiki By the end of this workshop, you will be able to: Communicate information across all SSG, keep track of updates and changes in SSG information, be at the forefront of collaborative technology, and contribute to the repository of SSG knowledge.

Today we will cover… Introduction and Explanation of SSGWiki A project truly owned across all SSG How SSGWiki can improve communication, knowledge retention, and collaboration between SSG services The Logisitics: How you can contribute, the Guidelines, keeping track of updates, the Brainstorming, and the Fun (see Wiki Cheatsheet) Getting a User ID and password to begin

Introduction and Explanation of SSGWiki What is Wiki? Wiki wiki comes from the Hawaiian term for 'quick' or 'super-fast' ; Wiki-wiki What good is a wiki? A website is a read-only medium, anyone can edit Wiki A way to use and access knowledge that is up-to-date and tended by a community Easy to use, like Word A project truly owned across all SSG

How SSGWiki can improve communication, knowledge retention, and collaboration between SSG services Collaborative documents - brainstorming Knowledge across all SSG not just tied to a campus - not just a shared drive Hate 10,000 emails with great info you’ll never find again? Easy to search Communication happens in real time. Once you save a page, it’s there - history of pages kept

Where is it? http://ssgwiki.rmit.edu.au/ What does it look like?

I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki.

10 Things to enhance your SSG working experience: I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. I want to let everyone know that a procedure has changed in our area. I want to post a picture / upload a document I just received an email that I think everyone would be interested in. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. I own (i.e., a couch, a book, a chair, an old bookcase, mixing bowls, could be anything) I would like to post on SSGFreecycle and give away. I want (i.e., a couch, a book, a chair, an old bookcase, mixing bowls, could be anything) and would like to post a request on SSGFreecycle and pick up. I came across an acronym that I use daily that I thought might be useful information for other SSG staff to know about. I’m going to a meeting at (e.g., Brunswick) and want to know of good restaurants in the area for lunch before I go back to my campus. I want to work on a document/ project with my SSG colleagues but we’re all on different campuses, what can I do? I’ve thought of a new way to use SSGWiki and I’d like to let others know about it.

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. a) To edit a page in the SSGWiki, log in with your user id and password:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. b) Navigate to the page you wish to edit and click on the “edit” tab at the top of the page:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. c) To format text, use the toolbar or Wiki Cheat Sheet:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. d) To link to a new page or an existing page within SSGWiki, type the title of the page as text in the current page and enclose the text in double brackets. Alternatively, highlight the text and click on the “Internal Link” button:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. e) You then click on “show preview” or “save the page” to save your changes:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. f) The page now looks like:

1. I want to add / edit a page in the SSGWiki. g) And if you click on the hyperlinked text, it takes you to another SSGWiki page you’ve just created and opens it for editing to add information:

2. I want to let everyone know that a procedure has changed in our area. Follow steps a) thru g) of #1 Email the webpage hyperlink to your SSG colleagues and suggest they “watch” (more details in #5) the update page in your area of SSGWiki

3. I want to post a picture / upload a document This toolbox appears on every page of the SSGWiki. Use this function to upload files (pictures, documents etc.)

3. I want to post a picture / upload a document You’ll see the upload file page. Click on Browse to find the file you care to upload, the destination name is filled in automatically for you (you may change the name). In the summary box fill in details about the file that make it easily searchable.

3. I want to post a picture / upload a document You may only upload documents, .pdf, and image files. It is recommended that files are less than 150kb in size, but you are able to upload larger files if necessary. The SSGWiki does not support uploading several files types (e.g., .xls, .mp3 or .mp4), however you may make direct links to these types of files (means they must live on the web somewhere else and you link to those files).

Highlight and copy the title of your uploaded file.

4. I just received an email that I think everyone would be interested in. Follow steps a) g) for #1 to edit a page. Type in the title of the email that you would like to appear as the clickable link:

4. I just received an email that I think everyone would be interested in. Highlight this text and click on the “Internal Link” button from the toolbar. This will create a link to a brand new page with the highlighted text as a title.

4. I just received an email that I think everyone would be interested in. Save your page. Click on your newly created link Cut and paste your email into the new page and save the page. Paste your interesting email here

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. There are three ways to know about current events, recent changes and updates: From any page in the SSGWiki, the side navigation bar has a selection of tools to click on to find your way around SSGWiki. One way is to click on “Current Events” which is regularly updated with the events of SSG. Another is to click on “Recent Changes” which will take you to a page that lists all the recent changes for the SSGWiki in the last 1, 3, 7, 14, & 30 days.

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. The third way is to “Watch” a page. This function allows you to keep track of when a set of pages you’ve selected has been updated.

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. Once you’ve clicked the “Watch” tab, you’ll see:

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. If you click on “Recent Changes” text, you’ll see:

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. If you click on “Watchlist” text, you’ll see:

5. I want to know what pages have been updated this week. To access your “Watchlist” from any page, click on “my watchlist” or “Recent change”:

SSG Freecycle Open to all SSG Staff who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. One constraint: everything posted must be FREE -- you simply post an offering on the SSG Freecycle page. Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a posted offer or post a request, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure. Our main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.
