Writing Prompt & Expectations Write an informative essay about the obstacles Satchel Paige faced on his way to the Major Leagues. Students will use directly cited and paraphrased evidence from the text. Students will use the PEEL strategy to formulate body paragraphs. Students will incorporate the following academic vocabulary words into their writing: convey, according to, essentially, evidently, due to, maintain, reveal, demonstrate, concur.

Transition to restated thesis: Therefore, the poverty Satchel Paige faced as a child, his run in with the law, and the fact that he was barred from the Major Leagues because of the color of his skin never stopped him from making his dream of being a professional baseball player. Each teammate must identify a strength and target. (10 min. per paper) Write your final essay making corrections needed.
