1 Tuesday Bell Ringer (EVEN)
This week you will work on writing an autobiography of your life. Today you will write about your childhood. Remember to include where you were born, who your parents are, and important events from your childhood. If You finish early, read a book. If you have not finished your plot diagram, continue working on it. 1. Have a pencil ready for the day. 2. Get a piece of loose leaf paper for the bell ringer if you didn’t start your autobiography last week. Your autobiography should be in your writing folder.

What context clue can help you define the word? In the last sentence, the author compares the watch to the sun to suggest how Gabriel feels about the watch. How does this comparison suggest Gabriel's feelings about the watch? Write your answer on the lines below. The author uses the simile to show Gabriel’s feelings about the watch Words such as golden, tiny, and sun have a positive connotation, so the simile helps the reader understand that watch is special.

What does the suffix of each word mean? Identify any similes and metaphors you can find in the second paragraph. How do they help show how the boy feels about the watch? The phrase “had a new treasure” is a metaphor. The watch is being compared to treasure. This shows that the boy treasures the watch because he compared it to treasure. He also shows he treasures the watch by carefully tucking it into his pocket.

Identify whether positive or negative connotation is being used. Identify the figurative language in the text. What is the author trying to convey? Identify two forms of figurative language that are used in lines 7 and 8. Explain what these lines mean. Use two details from the poem in your response. The speaker says the dust scoops “like hands,” so this is a simile. She also says that it “throws away” the road, which is personification. It means that the wind has carried so much dust into the air that road cannot be seen.

This week you will work on writing an autobiography of your life. Today you will write about a significant event in your life. Explain why the event was significant in your life. How did it impact your or shape your future? If You finish early, read a book. If you have not finished your plot diagram, continue working on it. 1. Have a pencil ready for the day. 2. Continue writing your autobiography.

Finish writing your autobiography. If you are finished, find someone who is finished and quietly trade autobiographies. Check each other’s paper. Make any revisions that are needed. 1. Have a pencil ready for the day. 2. Finish writing your autobiography.

Computer Games Drive Social Ties (nobody in 5th/6th period) Can playing video games help strengthen social relationships? Connect: Describe a time when you played a video game with a friend. How did it help strengthen your relationship? The Violent Side of Video Games Is it dangerous for individuals and society when children play violent video games? Connect: Describe a time when a parent or teacher told you, or someone you know, that you were wasting too much of your time playing video or computer games. What was the response? What Video Games Can Teach Us Do the potential benefits of video games outweigh the disadvantages? Connect: Describe a time when you, or someone you know, learned something from a game that was useful outside of the game itself in some way. If you have never had this experience with video games, describe a time when you were motivated to learn something by a game, anything from how to throw a ball, to how to play cards, and so on.

Using the CERCA organizer complete the building the argument with your partner. Raise your hand to have me review before moving on to the essay.

22 Step 6 Essay On your own!!! The essay should include: Introduction
3 body paragraphs Evidence Transitional phrases Conclusion *Use your CERCA organizer and build the argument. You may even go back to your summary.
