Education Undergraduate Programs Admissions Requirements Must be accepted to Clayton State University and meet with an advisor Must have an institutional and overall GPA of at least 2.5 Must have successfully completed EDUC 2110, 2120, and 2130 (including observations in classroom settings) For Middle Grades--Must have completed core and have a grade of “C” or higher in Area A-F courses For Secondary Undergraduates—Must have completed at least 45 hours of core classes and received grades of “C” or higher in content discipline and education courses

Admission Requirements-Continued Must attend an information session Must pass the GACE Program Admission Assessment (Formerly GACE Basic Skills Assessment) and the Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment Must submit a one-page essay on why you want to be a teacher Must have a reference form completed from two professors, one from each content concentration (middle level only)

Pre-Service Certificate Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment (350) Passing score on Program Admission Assessment GPA of 2.5 or higher GaPSC Application for Certification https://www.gapsc.com/ Affirmation questions and signature for background check Verification of Lawful Presence (and supporting document)

Middle Grades Education Cohort Program-housed in Department of Teacher Education (for teaching grades 4-8) Choose two areas of concentration Language Arts Mathematics (must have MATH 2010, number concepts and relations taught only in Spring) Science Social Science

Secondary Undergraduate Programs Programs in English, Mathematics, Biology, and History (for teaching grades 6-12) Housed in discipline departments Not cohort programs Must pass two content GACE exams Must choose only one area of certification Cannot enter internship with more than 3 credits remaining

Music Education Housed in Department of Visual and Performing Arts Must enter in freshman year Certification to teach Grades K-12

Clinical Practice and State Requirements All programs require a clinical practice experience. Middle Grades, Secondary Undergraduate and MAT programs require a fall practicum (2 days per week) and a spring internship (every day). This experience takes place in the final two semesters before graduation. Music Education candidates complete a variety of clinical practice experiences at all grade levels in their senior year. All candidates must complete a pedagogy assessment as directed by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission

Application Process Submit application through program coordinator and department in which degree is housed Application packet must be complete Middle Grades applications accepted for fall admission only (Applications accepted Spring Semester – deadline last Friday in May) The Secondary Program has a one-time entry date – the first week in October

Education Minor Any student in any degree program may declare an education minor. Those who want to add an endorsement may want to add the minor for financial aid purposes. To add the minor, students should choose through the DUCK

Conceptual Framework The mission of the Teacher Education Unit is to prepare professional educators who engage in reflective practice and who are competent, caring, committed, collaborative, culturally responsive, and prepared to teach diverse learners in an ever-changing society.
