What was the Renaissance What was the Renaissance? Renaissance means “Rebirth” – Rebirth of the greatness of classical civilizations (Greece and Rome)

Why did the Renaissance Begin in Northern Italy? Thriving Cities: Florence, Venice, Milan, Genoa Wealthy Merchant Class = Patrons of the Arts – People that Pay for Art Medici Family – Wealthiest Family in Florence Vatican – Pope – Catholic Church Classical Heritage Greece and Rome

Renaissance Values Wealth: Money and Materialism Individualism: Ideology that emphasizes the importance of the INDIVIDUAL Secularism: Philosophy that religion and social/political life can be separate.
