The Renaissance is the rebirth of interest in learning and the arts that began in Italy in the 1300’s The Renaissance brought great advancements in literature, philosophy, visual art, theater, and architecture.

4 Why Italy? Urban Growth Trade during the Crusades led to the growth of the Italian cites of Venice, Florence, Milan, and revitalized Rome

5 Why Italy? It was home to the original Roman empire where learning and art had flourished before!

6 Renaissance Values Humanism – study of human beings and human achievement (new type of art that focused on people) The Renaissance Man An ideal individual who tried to master every area of study
