Sometimes you need to add… es! You add –es when a word ends in ch sh x

Sometimes, you have to change some letters You change the “y” to an “i” and you add “es” You do this for words that have a consonant right before the “y” in a word Vowels are………………..A, E, I, O, U Consonants are……………..all of the other letters So………………….

Here is how we would make these words plural--- baby……………………………………babies lady…………………………………….ladies city…………………………………….cities

If you just add an –s, -es, or change the “y” to an “i” and add –es, the words are said to be REGULAR plural nouns

But ….there are the “trouble-maker” words These are called IRREGULAR plurals because They don’t follow the rules! Look out for them because they are EVERYWHERE…just waiting to try and see if they can trick you!

But they won’t!!!! Why? I am going to show you what they look like!! child………childs? (NO) child………childes? (NO) child……….children (YES!)
