Cryogenic C&C Scope of work

Cryogenic C&C Scope of work Main Objective Define, provide and program the local cryogenic PLC and associated control hardware for the 13 spoke cryomodules and their associated 13 valve boxes Define, provide and program the local cryogenic PLC and associated control hardware for the 9 medium beta elliptical cryomodules and their associated 9 valve boxes Define, provide and program the local cryogenic PLC and associated control hardware for the 21 high beta elliptical cryomodules and their associated 21 valve boxes

Cryogenic C&C for the Spoke Section Detailed Scope of work

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Main Objective Define, provide and program the local cryogenic PLC for the 13 spoke cryomodules and their associated 13 valve boxes 2 phases: 1/ Prototype: study, define, build and operate a prototype system for the spoke prototype cryomodule and its associated prototype valve box, with reduced specification regarding the integration in EPICS, but with the additional constraint to be able to operate both in the IPNO experimental area and in the FREIA experimental area. 2/ Final system for the ESS linac: study, define, build and operate the final control system for the 13 spoke cryomodules and their associated valve boxes, with full implementation of the operating constraints of the ESS linac (EPICS, MPS, PPS, cryoplant, building integration, standardization, …)

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Detailed scope of work for phase 1 (Prototype): Engineering functional analysis to set-up the requirements & specifications for the control of the cryomodules and valve boxes both for the prototype system (to be operated both at IPNO and FREIA), but also in view of the final system for the ESS linac. CNRS/IPNO, ESS, UU Study, define and provide all the required hardware and PLC programming to implement the prototype cryomodule and valve box control: Signal conditioners (cryo levels, temperature, pressure, vacuum level) PLC with the necessary I/O The PLC cabinet housing the signal conditioners and the PLC, and the associated switches, power supplies/converter (if any), and the EPICS control box (not provided). Instrumentation cables between the cryomodule/valve box and the PLC cabinet The HMI (Human Machine Interface) system (PC and required cables) to operate/monitor the PLC (WinCC or equivalent) PLC programming in accordance with the cryogenic operating modes defined by WP4

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Detailed scope of work for phase 1 (Prototype): Perform experimental tests A first stage with one test at IPNO premises (corresponding to a “debugging” stage), with the necessary adaptation to the IPNO experimental area specificities. A second stage with a series of tests at Uppsala University premises, with the necessary adaptation to the FREIA experimental area specificities CNRS/IPNO, UU Tasks included: transport from IPNO to UU participation to the installation and cabling at UU PLC programming

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Detailed scope of work for phase 2 (series production): Analysis of the outcome of the tests performed on the prototype to implement potential improvements/modifications. Full integration of the requirements for the final system for the ESS linac. Define and provide all the required hardware and PLC programming for the operation of the 13 cryomodules and 13 valve boxes cryo/vacuum control: Signal conditioners (cryo levels, temperature, pressure, vacuum level) PLC with the necessary I/O The PLC cabinet housing the signal conditioners and the PLC, and the associated switches, power supplies/converter (if any), and the EPICS control box (not provided). Instrumentation cables between the cryomodule/valve box and the PLC cabinet (located in the klystron gallery) PLC programming in accordance with the cryogenic operating modes defined by WP4 CNRS/IPNO

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Detailed scope of work for phase 2 (series production): System installation in the ESS linac/klystron gallery Transport to ESS Installation of the racks, cables Connection tests / checks Commissioning of one system with a local HMI or with the final ESS HMI CNRS/IPNO, ESS

Spoke Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Opened questions: What are exactly the requirements/needs for MPS, PPS (and their effect on the hardware choice) ? Does this cryo PLC also control the CTS stepper motor ? (ongoing discussions at ESS) PLCs, signal processors should be the same for all the facility/cryo part, but what are the other standards (cables, racks dimension/type, …) ? Any spare system or parts to be delivered ?

Cryogenic C&C for the Elliptical Sections Detailed Scope of work

Elliptical Section cryo C&C : Scope of work Main Objective Define, provide and program the local cryogenic PLC for the 30 elliptical cryomodules and their associated 30 valve boxes In general, same scope of work and breakdown of tasks as for the spoke cryomodules except the following: What prototyping phase ? In the Lund test stand ? Much less engineering work for the system definition and hardware choices as this will be already done within the spoke cryo C&C work unit Another partner in the loop: Poland, as they provide the elliptical valve boxes No participation of UU
