People commute. Mainly owner-occupier with some local authority housing Retired couples, high income families. Quieter less traffic congestion with lots of green space, Countryside feel. High percentage of car-owners so can work/shop elsewhere Ampfield & Braishfield – Rural Area Quiet, peaceful, Lots of open space with Greenfield sites. Mixed housing – large properties, village houses, some local authority but mainly owner-occupiers. High percentage of car owners – have to travel for everything or use Internet delivery Bevois - Inner City Old industry and workers houses terraced houses with no front gardens, no parking except narrow crowded streets Poor quality – cheap housing with private and Local Authority rentals – low income families, students. Bus services – low income so low % with cars. Increased crime, air & noise pollution, vandalism. Few open, green spaces High unemployment & health issues Shirley - suburbs Semi-detached housing – gardens, drives and garages. Land cheaper than CBD so bigger plots, parks, more green space, wider streets. Dominated by families and more owner-occupiers. Rental by students – large properties converted into flats. Bassett Shirley Bargate - Central Business District (CBD Few residential properties – mainly high quality apartments (Ocean Village), flats above shops and some townhouses. Narrow streets with little parking and green space. Public transport links so cars not needed and as the land is expensive, buildings are tall. Young professionals and lower socio-economic groups.
