Lego! Year 2 – Term 6 Literacy Writing a non-chronological report about nocturnal animals. Writing to inform an audience. Designing our own Lego character, giving them a name, personality and writing a character description. Using our own characters to plan and write an adventure Lego story. Guided reading groups. Making a class non-fiction book – link to History week focus. Writing instructions – how to create your Lego model. Using punctuation to add effect in our writing. Using WOW words in our writing and connectives to join ideas. Drama – hot seating and freeze-framing. Science Continue work on plants – know about the functions of leaves and name some plants that we eat, know about the functions of the roots. Classifying plants and animals – knowing different things are found in different places. How are features of different animals suited to their environment? How do we look after plants and animals? Maths Money – recognising coins, creating amounts using different combinations of coins, finding a total and giving change. Addition and subtraction – using a range of practical and written methods of addition and subtraction. Focussing on 2 and 3 digit numbers. Multiplication – using the array of Lego pieces to work out times tables. Creating our own arrays using Lego bricks! Data handling – collecting information and presenting it as a pictogram. Measures – Capacity. How much liquid does a container hold? Estimating and measuring in millilitres and litres. Reading scales. Division – solving word problems involving sharing and grouping. Lego! Geography Fieldwork week – exploring the local environment in Downton and it’s amenities. Eco-focus activities – using water effectively (visitor workshop) empty classroom day. Art/DT Printing with Lego. Minibeast Art pictures. Completing Lego challenges. PE Indoor – Circuits sessions to explore basic games skills. Outdoor – Athletics skills Music Da Capo scheme of work. Creating a Lego theme tune. Computing Unit of work – We are illustrators. Creating illustrations for our own Lego Ebooks. Using our typing skills to write an Ebook. Creating our very own Lego movies using the ipads. History Whole school history week – the development of transport over time. Year 2 focus – The Underground. Who invented Lego? Exploring change – finding ways to cope with change, being excited about change and looking forward to things. Reflecting on how we have changed over the year and getting ready for year 3.
