Welcome to the 13th Annual This Way to Sustainability Conference!

What is This Way to Sustainability? This conference provides a forum at which sustainability professionals come together to share, teach and learn about sustainability Our Theme this year: Sustaining Our Future Topics include: water, energy, social justice, climate, food and ag, transportation, laws & policies, business, technology, student engagement, and education. We will explore opportunities to enhance community and individual understanding of current sustainability issues Our audience includes students, faculty and staff from throughout the CSU, UCs, and community colleges from throughout CA, OR, NV, AZ, and beyond; K-12 students and faculty, community members, business and non-profit leaders. This Way to Sustainability XIII When: 2 full days, Thursday, March 15th - Friday, March 16th, 2018 Largest, student-run conference of its kind in North America. Hosts over 100 sustainability professionals and an estimated 1,400 participants in panel presentations, workshops, and more A great opportunity to develop leadership skills, expand your resume, host and interact with top-notch sustainability professionals, learn about green job opportunities, host a professional conference, and more! *Ask your teacher for extra credit!*

We need your help! Lead Guru Positions: Marketing and Outreach Public Relations Volunteer Moderator Donations Food and Beverage Special Events Building and Signage Registration

Marketing and Outreach Work with lead coordinators to promote the conference Maintaining social media outlets with updates Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, OrgSync Community Outreach Class talks, tabling, poster distribution, connect with faculty on campus Schedule and Assign Volunteers

Volunteer Guru Two Guru positions available Extremely important position for maintaining collaboration between our leads and volunteers Maintain and create volunteer spreadsheets Assign volunteers to tasks for Conference and Reception Keep track of student hours for extra credit Coordinate with volunteers within AS Sustainability Coordinate volunteer T-shirt distribution On site coordination of volunteers

Moderator Very important role within the conference 2 Moderator Gurus, and an estimated 80 moderators will be needed Moderator Guru connects with speakers before, during and after the conference Acts as personal host for the conference Introduce your speaker before presentation, maintain room logistics, keep time, etc. Technical assistance Escort speakers to special events Continental Breakfast, Keynote presentations, reception, and even a tour of Downtown Chico!

Donations As a non-profit event, we appreciate the support of our community. Donated items are used for special events, giveaways, speaker gift bags, competitions, raffles, and more Contact potential donors for in-kind donations Maintain donor contact lists Responsible for sponsor outreach and follow-up Work closely with all lead conference coordinators Coordinate raffles on site

Food and Beverage Guru Collaborates with lead coordinators, donations and special events gurus to plan sustainable meals for the conference Implementing donated items into special events planned Collaborating with special events to ensure catering needs are accommodated Work closely with either campus catering or off-campus caterers to select meal choices and obtain price estimates Ensuring local and organic food while also including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options

Special Events Works with lead coordinators to plan special events before and during conference to engage participation Schedules volunteers to assist with special event logistics Greenie Awards Coordination Caught You Being Green and other competitions & raffles Plan and coordinate decorations, entertainment, prizes Speaker Reception Focus on implementing new ideas for events to host during the conference

Welcome Reception Welcome Reception on March 15th, 2018 is an exclusive, invitation only event. In coordination with Special Events team, food and beverage team, donations team, and lead coordinators, volunteers will help with the following: Set-up before event Decorations Cleanup after event Plan and coordinate with catering Coordinate with entertainment

Building and Signage Will need about 10 volunteers Responsible for overseeing conference activities within the Bell Memorial Union (BMU) before and during the conference: monitor rooms during conference to assist moderators and participants with concerns, room counts, code compliance, etc. Creating and posting signage for the conference in compliance with campus regulations Post directional signage Assist with setup of the conference the day before it opens Assure compliance with building operations and Fire Marshal regulations. Coordinating with building staff before and during the event

Registration Welcome guests Advanced and On-site registration and Check-in Main conference info contact Provide directions for participants and speakers Coordinate and place local Chico visitor guides, brochures, and programs Registration Guru starts working in November Registration volunteers go through a brief training for the registration software and process in January or Febuary
