What is Pneumonia? Definition: Lung infection in which the alveoli sacs are filled with fluids and pus Common types: Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) (most common) Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP)

The Symptoms Common symptoms: Similar to the symptoms of a common cold/flu Coughing with phlegm (greenish/yellowish mucus) Chills Shortness of breath Experiences chest pain when breathing or coughing Fever

Causes of Pneumonia Bacteria Virus Fungi Streptococcus pneumoniae Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) Fungi Pneumocystis jiroveci

Diagnosis and Treatment Abnormal breathing sounds: crackling Chest x-ray Vaccines and antibiotics Hospitalization if needed

Summary Pneumonia is a lung infection Different types of pneumonia To confirm if you have pneumonia, a chest x-ray is needed. Vaccines and antibiotics are forms of treatments.
