State of the School Title I Meeting Pillsbury Math/Science/Technology October 5, 2017

Purpose of State of the Schools The purpose of the State of the School and Title I Annual meeting is to: Provide information about the current state of the school Provide an update on the School Improvement Plan Share priorities, goals and strategies for improvement Provide ways in which families can be engaged throughout the year. Clarify the purpose of Title I Describe the communication parents/guardians can expect to receive regarding their child’s progress. Standard slide (no need to make changes to this)

Family Engagement Goal Areas: Goal #3: By the end of the school year, 100% of African and African American parents will indicate that they OFTEN or ALMOST ALWAYS "feel that they belong at this school." Strategies: Participate Attend special events like tonight! Serve on the PTO board and/or attend meetings Join a language-specific parent group Be a part of the School Site Council, our school accountability board Volunteer Be a Room Parent Help out in the cafeteria, library, or front office, or at special events Give Participate in school fundraisers Participate in theteh School Supply Drive READ with your child daily!

Opportunities for Family Involvement Provide input in the development of the School Improvement Plan, Family Involvement Plan, and the School Compact Participate in School Site Council, PTO, Tea and Talk with the Principal Parents/guardians are encouraged to participate in Title I meetings and learning opportunities Attend school events (Reading Night, International Sharing Night, Math/Science Night, Target Store Event, and more!) Visit your child’s classroom or volunteer at your child’s school as a Room Parent Talk to your child’s teacher about events and issues that may affect your child’s work or behavior Participate in the School-wide Book Club

As a parent, you have the right… to know the qualifications of your child’s teacher to know when your child has a substitute teacher for more than four weeks and the qualifications of the substitute teacher to know how your child’s school is rated on its state test scores to expect regular communication with your school in a language that you can understand to work with other parents and staff to develop a school-level parent compact between the school and its families to help plan how money for family involvement should be spent to work with teachers, parents and the school principal to develop a family involvement plan to ask for a meeting with your school principal or your child’s teacher at any time

Title I and School Improvement Plan Title I is a federal program that provides money to schools and districts to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education to achieve proficiency on our state’s academic standards and assessments. Title I supports our School Improvement Plan and the funding we receive helps us to reach our goals.

Title I Do all schools receive Title I funds? Budget No. Title I programs are available to schools with the greatest concentration of low-income families. Budget This year, less than 1% of our school budget comes from this source. The total Title I amount is $304 These funds will be used to provide snacks at parent meetings

In any language…Any kind of book…Make it a habit How? Read to…You read, they listen Read with…Take turns Listen to…They read, you listen Listen with…Listen to an audiobook together Read next to…You each read your own books, but sitting next to each other In any language…Any kind of book…Make it a habit Just read!

One Way: The Bedtime Story Relationship- Life gets busy! Have a special time daily with your child(ren). Routine- When you do it consistency, they know what to expect. Relaxing- Calms them after a full day of school and play!

School-wide Book Club! Build literacy skills Comprehension Vocabulary Perseverance Build love for reading We’ve chosen a good book that will capture the imaginations and the interests of students from kindergarten to 5th grade! Build school community Diverse students and families (different cultures, different religions, etc.) all reading the same book

How it Works Read the book at home with your child Complete activities about the book that we will send home throughout the fall and winter Finish reading the book with your child by February, when we have our next Reading Night In February, we’re going to have a big celebration! Drumroll Please!
