Some of our key connections with families will be Send home weekly signed paper folders to report each child’s progress academically and behaviorally. Send home monthly school newsletters and weekly classroom newsletters which will may include sight word and fact fluency activities, spelling words, new sight words, weekly tests, and upcoming events. Provide each parent with sight word games and a list of questions to ask his/her child after reading a book. Provide parents with number flash cards and fact fluency games to work with his/her child at home. Offer Parent Academic Nights throughout the year with an emphasis on sight words and fact fluency. At Home SWLE believes that with a combined team effort your child will be successful in his/her learning goals. Parents will… Read each night with his/her child and ask questions about the book describing the characters, setting, and major events from the story. Go over work in daily homework folder and signed paper folder. Review old and new sight word cards daily by playing sight word games sent home by teacher. Count with his/her child to 120, starting at any number less than 120. Review numbers and fact fluency with his/her child using the games and items sent home by the teacher. Try to attend Academic Parent Nights or get information if unable to attend. Look at school newsletters and website for suggestions on helping my child improve on sight words and fact fluency. SWLE Students SWLE students will take charge of their success and learning. It is imperative to create ideas that bridge the home and school environment in order to make learning more meaningful. Students will strive to meet reading and math goals by putting forth their best efforts at school and home. Students will review their sight words daily by using flash cards or playing games sent home by the teacher. Students will observe the importance of math in daily life and apply various mathematical concepts for additional practice (count the number of items purchased, calculate the cost of items bought while shopping, reviewing numbers and reviewing fact fluency by using the games and items sent home by the teacher etc.). Students will read as much as possible.
