Stages of learning

Methods of practise Must link to the stage of learning 1. Shadow practice (preparation stage) Imitate action No pressure 2. Repetition drills (prep / practice) With or without movement 3. Continuous rally (practice) Both players play same shot repeatedly

Methods of practise 4. Combination rally (automatic) More game like 5. Conditioned games (automatic) Focus on a certain skill 6. Pressure drills (automatic) Improve skill whilst under pressure

Principles of effective practice To improve you must consider the following when practising: Clear goals – know what you want to improve, be SMART Work / rest ratio – High quality practise over a short time is best Progression – Challenging practices that get gradually more difficult Motivation / concentration – have the desire to succeed and be fully focused during training Feedback – must be POSITIVE, accurate and given quickly. Can be intrinsic or extrinsic.
