Gathering Information We used three methods to gather information on our performance. We used three methods to gather information on our performance. They were the: They were the: General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) Focused Observation Schedule (F.O.S) Focused Observation Schedule (F.O.S) Video of performance. Video of performance.

General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) A G.O.S was used to investigate performance and identify strengths and weaknesses in the game. A G.O.S was used to investigate performance and identify strengths and weaknesses in the game. A G.O.S was used as they are easy to fill in and understand. A G.O.S was used as they are easy to fill in and understand. They also provide a permanent record of my performance. They also provide a permanent record of my performance. This allows results from future schedule’s to be compared to check for improvement. This allows results from future schedule’s to be compared to check for improvement.

General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) The G.O.S was completed during 3 matches up to 11 points. Each match was played against an opponent of similar ability. The G.O.S was completed during 3 matches up to 11 points. Each match was played against an opponent of similar ability. This meant that a lot of information was gathered and that it was appropriate for my level of ability. This meant that a lot of information was gathered and that it was appropriate for my level of ability.

General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) The G.O.S. had a list of skills down the left hand side of the sheet. The G.O.S. had a list of skills down the left hand side of the sheet. The skills/techniques were; serve, overhead clear, drop shot, smash, net shot, and underarm lift. The skills/techniques were; serve, overhead clear, drop shot, smash, net shot, and underarm lift. Along the top of the G.O.S were the headings; Game 1, Game 2, Game 3. Along the top of the G.O.S were the headings; Game 1, Game 2, Game 3.

General Observation Schedule (G.O.S) To complete the G.O.S. my partner who had a good knowledge of badminton watched my performance of the skills/techniques during the games. To complete the G.O.S. my partner who had a good knowledge of badminton watched my performance of the skills/techniques during the games. A tick was placed beside the skill/technique if I performed it successfully and a cross if it was performed unsuccessfully. A tick was placed beside the skill/technique if I performed it successfully and a cross if it was performed unsuccessfully.

Focused Observation Schedule F.O.S. After identifying the overhead clear as my main weakness an F.O.S. was used to analyse my performance of this shot. After identifying the overhead clear as my main weakness an F.O.S. was used to analyse my performance of this shot. The F.O.S allowed me to look at my technique in more detail to discover the parts that needed improvement. The F.O.S allowed me to look at my technique in more detail to discover the parts that needed improvement.

Focused Observation Schedule F.O.S. The F.O.S. gave the criteria for a model performer playing the overhead clear. The F.O.S. gave the criteria for a model performer playing the overhead clear. This criteria was split into the different phases of performing the shot, preparation, action and recovery (P.A.R.). This criteria was split into the different phases of performing the shot, preparation, action and recovery (P.A.R.).

Focused Observation Schedule F.O.S. Preparation – The subroutines or actions performed before the shot is played. Preparation – The subroutines or actions performed before the shot is played. Action – The subroutines or actions performed when actually playing the shot. Action – The subroutines or actions performed when actually playing the shot. Recovery – The subroutines or actions performed after playing the shot Recovery – The subroutines or actions performed after playing the shot

Focused Observation Schedule F.O.S. The F.O.S. was completed by my partner whilst I performed the overhead clear repeatedly in isolation. The F.O.S. was completed by my partner whilst I performed the overhead clear repeatedly in isolation. A tick was put beside the parts of the overhead clear I performed well and a cross beside the parts that needed improvement. A tick was put beside the parts of the overhead clear I performed well and a cross beside the parts that needed improvement. My performance was compared to that of a model performer which allowed me to identify the specific parts of my technique that needed improvement. My performance was compared to that of a model performer which allowed me to identify the specific parts of my technique that needed improvement.

Video of Performance My performance of the overhead clear was videoed whilst I performed the overhead clear repeatedly in isolation. My performance of the overhead clear was videoed whilst I performed the overhead clear repeatedly in isolation. This allowed my to analyse my performance and ensure that the F.O.S. had been correctly completed. This allowed my to analyse my performance and ensure that the F.O.S. had been correctly completed.

Video of Performance The video allowed me to repeatedly watch my performance or look at stills to analyse specific parts of my technique. The video allowed me to repeatedly watch my performance or look at stills to analyse specific parts of my technique. This allowed me to compare my performance to that of a model performer. This allowed me to compare my performance to that of a model performer.

G.O.S, F.O.S. and Video All three methods of gathering data identified my strengths and weaknesses. All three methods of gathering data identified my strengths and weaknesses. This allowed me to plan a training programme to improve my weaknesses This allowed me to plan a training programme to improve my weaknesses

G.O.S, F.O.S. and Video Other reasons why these were appropriate method of gathering data: Other reasons why these were appropriate method of gathering data: Permanent record of performance so can be studied at any time and can be used to compare future results to check for improvement Permanent record of performance so can be studied at any time and can be used to compare future results to check for improvement Completed over a number of games and repetitions so a lot of information was gathered. Completed over a number of games and repetitions so a lot of information was gathered. Completed when playing against opponents of Similar Ability Completed when playing against opponents of Similar Ability The schedules were easy to complete and understand.
