3 Aim during gymnastics… To improve our performance by developing our understanding of skills and techniques:  What are skills and techniques.  How to gather data on them.  How to break a skill down.  Different ways to learn skills.  The importance of feedback when learning skills.  The stages of skill learning.

4 What exactly are skills and techniques? A skill describes the purpose of linked sequences of movement. An example of a skill is shooting in basketball. Technique describes the ways of completing a skill. In basketball, shooting is a skill. Lay-up, set shot, jump shot and slam dunk are techniques for shooting.

17 How did we gather general data on our performance?

18 Gathering general data on your performance? We gathered general data by completing a skills checklist. Our partner watched us perform various flight, balance, rotational and inversion skills. We performed each skill 5 times. After our 5 th attempt our partner ticked whether we showed: 1.limited control and fluency 2.sometimes showed control and fluency 3.showed good control and fluency 4.consistently showed a high degree of control and fluency

19 Why was the data gathering method appropriate? Identified our strengths and weaknesses. Observation schedule provided us with a permanent record we could look back upon after practising. Performing each skill 5 times meant we got an accurate picture of our ability.

20 How can we make skill analysis more simple? One way of analysing a skill is to break it down into smaller parts which contain fewer subroutines. By doing this we can easily see which parts of the skill are being performed correctly and which parts need to be developed

21 All skills can be broken down into 3 main areas PREPARATION ACTION RECOVERY A good way to remember this is PAR.
