Accept the Challenge: Pass the Baton of Leadership! Student Training And Rewards System (STARS) Student Engagement and Leadership

Pass the Baton of Leadership: Looking/Reaching Back- Moving Forward How will you hand off your organization to the next leader by passing your passion and knowledge to the next president? How will you leave your legacy?

Officer Leadership Manual Outline Section 1:Contact Information Section 2: Organizational Documents Section 3: College Resources Section 4: Finances Section 5: Evaluation

Organization Transition: Do you know how to plan your annuals, programs, awards receptions and traditional events? Do you know how to improve them? 2nd Relay Challenge: Update your Leadership Manual with activity reports- Complete the form after every event or project. Complete it before you’ve forgotten about it. Think about it, if you did not know what could be improved or what really worked (to repeat), how would the event/tradition become stronger? Write a message to next year’s president.

Activity Report (Evaluation) Date & details of program Program description Goals Planning steps/deadlines Budget Delegation of tasks Important contacts Assessment of program: 1) Did you meet your goals? 2) How many people attended? 3)What worked? 4)What could be improved? 5) What planning steps need changed? 6)Were you under or over your budget? 7)Were all tasks delegated responsibly? 8)Did anyone feel overwhelmed? (Add your own feedback as needed) Write a message to next year’s president.

Leadership Transition: How do you balance your officer position and lead the way for future leaders? 3rd Relay Challenge: Be a teacher and leader- Don’t delay, start now. Don’t wait until elections to pass the baton. Teach members about your leadership role and responsibilities. Share leadership tasks and empower members, so they will know what to expect if they want to become the next president.

What if the Baton Dropped? Ask the Important Questions: What could I have done to improve the outcome? What were the obstacles to performing my job effectively? What support would have helped me to change my job for the better? What do I still need to learn? Despite setbacks, what can I be proud of?

Accept the Challenge: Pass the Baton of Leadership BENEFITS: Cultivates Continuity-Your organization will not repeat ineffective practices. Creates Closure-Completing the officer transition process will assist outgoing leaders to bring closure to their experience and empower new leaders. Establishes Growth-Your organization will strengthen itself through teamwork.

Accept the Challenge: Pass the Baton of Leadership!
