3 2018-19 Budget Planning Summary
Timeline - Overview: March - Budget Proposal: Today - FR’s vote on budget: May

4 Most asked question over the past month:
When did Minnesota become a right-to-work state? Answer: We aren’t yet, but if (when) the Janus case is decided in the Supreme Court, we will have the same ability to collect dues from all members as a right-to-work state. After Janus: Non-members = No dues paid, yet all benefits received.

6 How are wages impacted? Click HERE to link to a description of the above statistical analysis from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

7 Closer to Home… ACT 10 Passes in Wisconsin Loss in wages = $5,500 from 2011 to Your annual dues = $ for

8 So, What does Right to Work mean to our Membership?
According to Education Minnesota, Union memberships in states that adopt Right-to—Work legislation drops 15% to 20% in the first year. The budget for next year aimed to cut ~15% from our discretionary spending Budget Budget (with a 15% cut) Amount Cut Revenue $234,940.00 $195,500.00 $34,500 Expenses $237,060.00 $197,200.00 $34,800

9 Our thoughts going into this
It is essential to maintain a full-time release President for him or her to remain effective Reduce / cut money from areas that benefit fewer members Don’t raise dues

10 Proposal After discussion with Dan and Vince, here are our thoughts:
Cut 3 NEA delegates (+$7,200) Cut 2 HS Scholarships (+$2,000) Reduce REA Banquet (+$2,000) Cut 48 days from officer stipends ($17,376) Reduce Pres. Training (+$1,000) Reduce PD (+$500) Total Savings = $30,600
