3 Effective transitions are important to the success and longevity of an organization. As an Advisor, you can assist in navigating this process for your leadership team as well as serving as a resource.

Common challenges student organizations face Time Wait until the last week of the semester No opportunity to shadow and/or meet Organization Important documents and files not saved Transition documents not created Engagement Lack of student interest

5 How to Get Started Timeliness Transparency Turnover
The Three T’s of Transition Timeliness Create a transition timeline for your organization that allows all incoming and outgoing officers to have effective time to transfer over information Transparency Share all important information will the incoming executive councils. Don’t be afraid to talk about failure and share successes. Turnover Be a resource to incoming officers when they take over after the transitioning period.

Transparency- is the part of the transition process that sets up the next officers for success. Disadvantages of Student Organization Sometimes lose momentum Items get lost in translation Lack of direction Ways to Combat Disadvantages Provide honest feedback to new officers (good and bad) Give the officers a wish list (things you wish you would have done) Pose a challenge (Give the new officers a reason to grow the organization)

If you aren’t getting good grades, chances are, you won’t last long in your organization. Paperwork Get it done early, in case of errors. Registration Be aware of appropriate deadlines depending on situation. CampusLINK Update calendar, contact information, documents, and forms at least once a week. Constant Communication Respond to s promptly. Check your everyday, twice a day! Keep other officers in check, but don’t over-control them. You should be communicating with officers throughout each week! Manage Time Wisely Get tasks done early. The sooner, the better! Think: Why not do it now?

10 Organize to Maximize Assure you have a consistent filing process
Google Drive Calendars, programming reports, and anything else can all go here! Binder Good for miscellaneous notes, helpful contacts, and item lists. CampusLINK Stores photos, forms, documents, notes Won’t ever be deleted unless someone removes them Serves as a communication forum Try to stick with one of these options Utilizing multiple forums can cause confusion

11 Transition Meeting Layout
Get to know each other! Establish a relationship where everyone can be honest and open Set realistic and attainable goals. Ask yourself two questions: What and Why List your options for the semester (events, programs, get-togethers) Things you want to do Determine dates and times for your calendar. Be sure not to overbook. Be aware of conflicting events Wrap up. Plan future meetings. Discuss anything else that wasn’t covered.
