DEPRESSION SUICIDE

Depression A mood disorder in which a person feels sad and hopeless for an extended period of time (at least two weeks). This is a mental illness and can be extremely dangerous. Symptoms include: Extreme sadness, sometimes for no reason. Inability to cheer up even with good news. Change in sleeping behaviors and/or eating patterns. Very little energy, often fatigued. Difficulty concentrating, focusing, and/or making decisions. Feelings of guilt or hopelessness. Thoughts of death or suicide.

SUICIDE The intentional taking of one’s own life.

Warning Signs Statements of feeling hopeless, helpless, sad, worthless Threats of hurting or killing themselves Hints through art, writings, verbally Bizarre behavior Substance Abuse Withdrawal from friends and family Personality change/Mood Swings Change in eating and/or sleeping habits
