HEAT
Heating is a means by which energy can be transferred. What is heating? Heating is a means by which energy can be transferred.
What is a conductor? Energy, such as heat, transfers through some materials easily. These materials are called conductors. Metals are great conductors because energy passes through them quickly
Our Experiment We will carry out an experiment to see which material is the best insulator
Materials *thermometers *elastic bands *6 jam jars with lids *a scissors *cotton wool , newspaper, tissue paper, some cloth, aluminium foil *warm water
Method Set up a fair test Insulate (wrap material around) 5 of the jars Jar 1: with cotton wool Jar 2: with newspaper Jar 3: with cloth Jar 4: with aluminium foil Jar 5: with tissue paper Jar 6: no insulation
2. Fill each jar with warm water 2. Fill each jar with warm water. Put the same amount of water in each jar 3. Take the temperature of the water in each jar and record it 4. Take the temperature of the water in each jar every 5 minutes for half an hour. Record your findings
5. Which jar has lost the least heat. Was it insulated. With what. 6 5. Which jar has lost the least heat? Was it insulated? With what? 6. Which jar lost the most heat? 7. What conclusions do you draw about materials for insulation?
