Drill What was your favorite part of television production from last year?

Objective Students will review studio jobs and equipment in order to prepare for a PTV news broadcast.

Studio Jobs Producer –

Studio Jobs Producer – It is the Producer’s responsibility to create the script for the day. A draft of the script must be presented to the Executive Producer by 8:05 each morning. Once approved, the Producer will enter the script in the Teleprompter, and run the Teleprompter during the show.

Studio Jobs Director –

Studio Jobs Director – This person is in charge of everything in the control room. This person should check to make sure all equipment is operational upon arrival to the studio and should make sure that the cameras get white balanced. During the show, he/she calls out the different directions and transitions. Without the director, there would be no production!

Studio Jobs Technical Director –

Studio Jobs Technical Director – This person listens to the Director for the ready commands of switching to another camera or keying graphics. This is a very fast paced job so he/she must be able to listen carefully for directions.

Studio Jobs Audio Operator –

Studio Jobs Audio Operator – The audio mixer controls the amount of volume in a production, along with the microphones and music. The Audio Operator must check the battery level in all mics that will be used in the show. During the show, he/she must watch the audio levels to make sure they are not too high or too low.

Studio Jobs DVD Operator –

Studio Jobs DVD Operator – The DVD Operator must cue the Show Open and Pledge DVD to the appropriate place for the beginning of the show. He/She must play and stop the video at the appropriate time and must record the entire show on a separate tape.

Studio Jobs CG Operator –

Studio Jobs CG Operator – The CG operator must update all graphics needed for the show and bring them up at the appropriate time. He/she also controls the credits at the end of the show.

Studio Jobs PC (PowerPoint) Operator –

Studio Jobs PC (PowerPoint) Operator – The PC Operator will create any full-screen images needed for the show – this usually includes a weather slide and a quote slide. He/she will cue the graphics at the appropriate time.

Studio Jobs Floor Manager –

Studio Jobs Floor Manager – At 8:05 the Floor Manager will turn on the studio lights and turn off the other lights. During the show the Floor Manager will listen to the Director via headset and direct the anchors using hand signals. The Floor Manager is in charge of everything that happens in the studio during the show.

Studio Jobs Camera Operators –

Studio Jobs Camera Operators – Camera Operators must make sure that their assigned camera is fully operational before each show. They are in charge of setting up each of their shots and keeping everything in focus. They are required to listen to the director during the show via headset in case of any changes.

Studio Jobs Anchors –

Studio Jobs Anchors – The anchors (Anchor 1, Anchor 2, and Special Segment Anchor) are responsible for making sure that they know their script each morning and have checked any graphics that are part of their segment. The anchors must smile and read their lines smoothly. The anchors should be professional at all times while on camera!
