Tuesday 28th March 2017 KS1 SATs Meeting

Individual children will not be discussed. Outline What are SATs? An outline of the tests Teacher assessment The results What you can do to help Individual children will not be discussed.

What are SATs? Children are assessed in: Reading Mathematics In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the tests support this judgement.

Tasks and Tests Paper 1 Paper 2 Paper 1 - Arithmetic Assessment Area Reading Paper 1 Paper 2 Maths Paper 1 - Arithmetic Paper 2 - Reasoning Chn can have help reading questions.

Teacher Assessment If children do not perform to best ability in the test, teacher assessment will be used. Children will not know that they are taking SATs, done as subtly as possible.

Assessment Papers are marked and assessed against a ‘scaled score’. The mark falls into one of these categories: Below the expected standard Achieving the expected standard Exceeded the expected standard

The Results Results are reported to the LA. An overall result will be made available with yearly reports whether your child is working below, at or above ARE.

What can you do to help? Read together every day and ask questions about the story Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc. Continue to work on targets discussed at parents evening. Ensure your children have a healthy sleep pattern and a good breakfast every day so they can take on the information they need.

What can you do to help? Explicit revision is not necessary [teacher assessment]. Children already familiar with question format through subtle teaching.

Thank you for your time
