20 Do all children have to sit the tests?
The Headteacher will decide if it is appropriate for each child to take the tests following the guidance the government has given If your child is not taking the tests you will be informed by the school and a teacher assessment will be made

21 How will the tests be marked?
From 2016, KS2 national curriculum test outcomes are no longer reported using levels, instead scaled scores will be used instead. The scaled score of 100 will always represent the ‘expected standard’

22 Scaled scores Children who have a scaled score of 100 or more will have reached the expected standard. Children below 100 will not have reached the expected standard.

23 How will parents be informed of the level that their child has been assessed at?
In your child’s end of year report you will be given your child’s teacher assessments for writing, reading, SPAG, maths and science. Your child’s scaled score from the SAT’s tests and confirmation of whether or not they attained the expected standard for reading, SPAG and maths.

24 How can you help your child?
Make sure that your child is only absent when it is necessary. Do not plan holidays during term time. Try to make sure that your child is ready to learn each day and is not tired. This is particularly important during the week of the tests. Ensure that your child is punctual every day so that they do not miss lessons.

25 How you can help your child?
Read with your child daily and discuss the book that you have read together. (Remember to sign your child’s reading record as this enables you to work with your child’s class teacher.) Support your child with the learning of new spellings given out weekly by your class teacher. Revisit earlier spellings Encourage your child to write for different purposes at home.

26 Study Booklets   The school has purchased Reading , SPAG and Maths study booklets for each child in Year 6. The booklets covers some of the key skills the children will cover and help prepare them for the KS2 Tests. Children will be introduced to the booklets and expectations set.

27 Supporting at home The children will be set papers from the booklets to complete at home. Teachers will go through the papers the following week. It is essential that children complete the practise papers on time and to the best of their ability. Booklets should be kept in children’s reading bags.
