1 Welcome to Year 2! Miss O’Neill and Miss Vaughan

3 Role of Parents  Your role is absolutely crucial to your child’s success this year. Their best can be achieved through:  Support with homework  Encouraging them to talk about their work  Attendance and punctuality

4 Already identified…  Times tables (x2, x10, x5, x3)  Adding and subtracting simple numbers mentally

5 Uniform  Please ensure all uniform has child’s name  Polo shirt- round neck sweater  School shoes- girls should wear laced up or buckle and strap shoes.  No jewellery accept one pair of studs and a watch. No nail varnish or makeup.  PE kit- Fridays, white t-shirt, shorts, jogging bottoms, trainers/pumps

6 Behaviour  Positive behaviour encouraged through everything- Through Jesus, we achieve our very best  Examples of this identified for all to aspire to  3 strikes approach to sanctions where disruptive behaviour occurs  Importance of positive behaviour outside of the classroom too

7 Class Rocket  Class rocket- If they reach gold the get a reward at the end of the day.  3 warnings and they will move down the rocket.  If they are moved down to red they will miss part of their break time/lunch time or will leave the classroom for a short period of time.  If they are persistently moved down to red they will be required to see Mrs Tomlinson/Mrs Jackson.  Action after this- phone call or meeting with parents.

8 House points  House points are also given out to children for good behaviour.

9 Equipment- What the children need and when…  Water bottle – every day  Book bag – every day  No pencil cases  Homework – Maths given on Monday back on Wednesday English given on Wednesday back on Friday  PE Kit – Friday  Home reader – Different days

10 Homework  Homework is set to consolidate learning completed in lessons from the previous week.  Children should read every night  Rest on weekend  Examples will be shown on homework activities when necessary.  Please check children’s homework and sign. Make a comment if you wish/need to.

11 Targets  Children all have personalised Writing targets and group Reading targets. Vital that you are aware of these and can support them to achieve them.  Reviewed half-termly and progress monitored.

12 What are new SATs?  Children are assessed in; Reading SPAG Mathematics  In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the tests support this judgement.

13 Teacher Assessment  If children do not perform to best ability in test then teacher assessment can be used.  Children will not know that they are taking SATs, done as subtly as possible.

14 What can you do to help? Explicit revision is not necessary [teacher assessment]. Children already familiar with question format through subtle teaching. Will be sending home a practice questions for you to work through over the course of the year.

15 What can you do to help?  Read together every day and ask questions about the story  Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc.  Continue to work on targets discussed at parents evening.

16 Bits and Bobs  Children shouldn’t arrive before 8.45am unless attending Breakfast club or an extra-curricular club.  The adventure playground should not be used at these times either.  Please don’t let children ride bikes or scooters around the playground.
