Medway Route 109 (Main Street)

Medway Route 109 Overview Route 109 (Main St.) in Medway is a 2 lane, Urban Principal Arterial that carries approximately 21,000 vehicles per day. This project begins just west of the Franklin/Highland Street intersection and continues to just east of Holliston street for a length of 1.5 miles. This corridor features residential areas, churches, parks, and retail.

Project Location

Existing Conditions Poor pavement quality. No bicycle accommodating shoulders. Currently there is a sidewalk on the north side and intermittent segments on the south side. Sidewalk that does exist is substandard and in very poor condition. Sidewalks and curb cut ramps do not meet current ADA standards. Pedestrian traffic signal equipment is outdated and substandard.

Proposed Typical Section

Proposed Features Full depth pavement reconstruction and widening. Milling and resurfacing. Adding ADA compliant sidewalks along both sides of the roadway. Bicycle accommodating shoulders along both sides of the roadway. Upgrading traffic signals on Route 109 (Main St.) at the intersections with Franklin/Highland Streets and Holliston Street.

Proposed Features (Cont.) Add new traffic signals on Route 109 (Main St.) at the intersections with Winthrop/Evergreen Streets and Medway Shopping Drive. High intensity Activated crossWalK (HAWK) Beacons will be installed at two midblock crossings at the Choate Park entrance and at the Medway Shopping Center. Ornamental lighting will be installed throughout the project limits.

Leominster Mechanic Street Improvements

Mechanic Street Overview This section of Mechanic Street in Leominster is an Urban Minor Arterial that carries approximately 11,000 vehicles per day. This project begins at the intersection with Laurel Street and runs eastward to just west of the Commercial Road intersection. This corridor features residential areas, churches, and various small businesses. This is a vital corridor connecting downtown Leominster to Interstate 190 and Route 2.

Conditions before Construction Poor pavement quality. No bicycle accommodating shoulders. Sidewalk throughout most of the project area was in severe disrepair. Sidewalks did not meet current ADA standards.

Features after Construction Pavement widened, reconstructed, and resurfaced. Bicycle accommodating shoulders along both sides of the roadway. New ADA compliant cement concrete sidewalk along both sides of the roadway. New cement concrete driveways. ADA compliant curb cut ramps and new crosswalks throughout the project limits.
