Indiana University chapter of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry

What is the AAPHD? AAPHD is a student chapter at IUSD that focuses on public health dentistry. Our goal is primarily two fold: Connect students to outreach projects (health fairs, oral health screenings, etc.) This includes the Student Outreach Clinic This helps many students fulfill their intramural credit hour requirements Provide students with a lecture/discussion series related to public health topics Especially those topics relating to public or global oral health Provide food for members only

Executive Board Title Descriptions The following slides give descriptions of the positions that are available in this election.

President Update the organization’s constitution Send out reminders for all meetings with an agenda Call/Conduct Executive Board meetings Serve as liaison to : Faculty, Office of Civic Engagement, Office of Clinical Affairs Assist and support AAPHD Executive Board Members with operations of the organization Plan/Conduct call-out meetings for membership and executive board elections Work to develop benefits of an AAPHD membership Work to encourage students to join the AAPHD Pre-requisite: Serve on AAPHD Executive Board as President-Elect

President-Elect Work closely with President Fill in for President in their absence Help call/conduct meetings Serve as liaison to : Faculty, Office of Civic Engagement, Office of Clinical Affairs Assist and support AAPHD Executive Board Members with operations of the organization Work to encourage students to join AAPHD Become President of AAPHD the following year Pre-requisite: Serve on AAPHD Executive Board for one-term previously

Secretary Attend and record minutes of AAPHD Board meetings Email the meeting minutes to all AAPHD Board Members Book resources (i.e. rooms) for meetings Create and distribute monthly progress reports to all AAPHD members Work to encourage students to join AAPHD Maintain accurate list of active AAPHD members on AAPHD website

Fiscal Officer Manage the finances of the organization Make deposits From fundraisers, donations, and member’s dues Make authorized withdrawals To reimburse guest speakers, members, supplies for outreach projects, etc. Coordinate with Professional Development Directors and Community Projects Directors Work with AAPHD Board to conduct appropriate fundraising efforts Generate funds for outreach events and lecture/discussion series (at least one per semester) Provide monthly account activity report to President/President- Elect Work to encourage students to join the AAPHD

Professional Development Directors Responsible for organizing 3 guest speakers for a presentation/Q&A session per semester. Work with President/Preside-Elect Conduct survey of student membership to determine what topics are of interest to them Presented at Call-Out meeting Responsible for organizing Global Oral Health Talks (GOH Talks) once a month starting March. Work with President/President-Elect Call Out meeting to gauge interest of International Dental Program students, International D.D.S. students, and International Service Learning participants. Coordinate ordering food from either campus or off campus sources Work with Fiscal Officer to get reimbursed for food or to reimburse guest speaker for travel related expenses Work to encourage students to join the AAPHD

Community Projects Director Responsible for organizing/conducting all outreach projects/health fairs, etc. Shelter Sealant program Geriatrics Brickyard 400 Head and Neck Cancer Screening Event OHCCB Cancer Run (Brush, Floss, Rinse) – 5K Order supplies for all outreach projects Through Michelle Mitchell (Office of Civic Engagement located next to library) Coordinate with Fiscal Officer as needed Work with Office of Clinical Affairs to file necessary paperwork Work with President/President-Elect to recruit faculty to supervise events when oral health screenings are needed. Recruit student volunteers to be providers at events Responsible for finding donations of supplies for outreach projects if possible Work to encourage students to join the AAPHD

Web Developer Work with President/President-elect to create, maintain, and update a website for AAPHD Calendar Blog Member sign-up list Repository of Board Roles and Responsibilities Abstracts for Service Projects Get AAPHD a link to its’ website on the Office of Civic Engagement Page of IUSD’s Website Not of immediate importance Work to encourage students to join AAPHD
