in Industrial Chemistry Master Degree in Industrial Chemistry LM-71 Campus Città Studi Chemistry Department Via Golgi 19 - Milano

What is industrial chemistry? • The development, optimization and monitoring of fundamental chemical processes used in industry for transforming raw materials and precursors into useful commercial products for society. How is it important and relevant for us ? • Industrial chemistry plays a vital role as an applied science in diverse areas that influence human society ranging from economic, environmental and political stability.

Changing Demands in Education Facts  knowledge, skills (where to get & how to select info) Skills  competences, experience Skills related to use of Information Technology Individual  team work Mono-disciplinary  multi-disciplinary teams Internationalization Professional Ethics (A safe and clean environment; Human health; Improvment in the human life quality

Professional Outcome Manager in private or public Companies in the field of energy, human health, environment and public administration both in R&D and marketing activities. Head of R&D in pre-industrial and industrial plants in many industrial sectors. Expert in the field of patents and in all activities of promotion and development of the scientific and technological innovation.

Testing and assessment procedures HEADING Degree classification - Denomination and code : LM-71 Industrial chemistry Degree title: Dottore Magistrale Length of course: 2 Credits required for admission: 180 Total number of credits required to complete 120 programme: Course years currently available: 1st , 2nd Access procedures: open, subject to entry requirements Course code: F7Y Testing and assessment procedures  The schedule of the examination sessions for the assessment of the learning outcomes is available through the Sifaonline Service For each course at least one session is scheduled for each of the following months: February, June; July, September, and January.

LM Industrial Chemistry Core Compulsory Courses: Advanced Industrial Chemistry with Lab (9 CFU) Chemical Processes & Industrial Plants (6 CFU) Economics & Management (6 CFU)

Distinctive Courses (9 CFU): students must select 1 Applied Organic Chemistry with Lab Chemistry of Inorganic Materials with Lab Energy: Source, Conversion & Storage with Lab

Distinctive Courses (6 CFU): students must select 4 Environmental Control & Sustainability Management Principles & Applications of Metallorganic Chemistry Concepts & Methods in Organic Synthesis (Heterogeneous Catalysis) Industrial Processes & Scale-up Synthetic Methods in Biotechnology Nanotechnology of Inorganic Materials Physical Chemistry of Formulations Recycle & Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Products & Processes Physical Chemistry of Disperse Systems and of Interfaces Metal Corrosion & Protection Polymer Chemistry Process Development Photochemistry Environmental Electrochemistry Catalytic Methodologies in Organic

Patents & Management of Innovation Integrative & related Courses (6 CFU): students must select 2 Patents & Management of Innovation Chemical Safety Medicinal Chemistry

Teachers coming from the industrial world Dr. Bortoluzzi: Environmental Control and Sustainability Management Dr. Boffito & Dr. Vatti: Patents and Management of Innovation Dr. Castellaneta: Economics and management Within the other courses, seminars are held by people from the industrial world Each year a specific call is published to recruit people from the industry with CVs relevant to the course requirements.

One example…..

THESIS RESEARCH LABORATORY 39 credits During the second year the students must attend the one-year thesis research laboratory; the parallel frequency of the expected courses is included. An opportunity to growth as a researcher, to learn how to work in team, to learn by papers published in literature, to speak with students involved in the same topic all over the world. The Master’s degree in Industrial chemistry of the Università degli Studi di Milano has been among the first ones in Italy to gain the EuroMaster Label. The EuroMaster Label certifies the educational qualification provided by the Master’s Degree Course in Industrial Chemistry as a master’s degree recognized by the European Universities and gives the right to access the post-graduate courses of chemistry at the European level.

INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY No inactive students High average ratings of student exam grades Entering in detail (Source: University), the average grade of graduation is 106.5 / 110 and the time employed to complete the degree is 2.2 years and 41.2% graduates.

After 6 months after the end of the Master: 78% work continuously in the chemical field 16% continue their studies (doctorate) 6% are looking for work interesting fact is that the totality of the employed has found work in the private sector In particular, the Chemical / Energy branch absorbs 62.9% of graduates in front of a total of 79% of employees in industry. As far as the tertiary sector is concerned, 4.8% of graduates are employed in education and research, compared with 14.2% of other activities (miscellaneous services, consultancy, trade and healthcare). Almost all of the respondents (95.3%) consider the skills acquired in their cursus studiorum can be used to a high degree (AlmaLaurea)
