Community Service Learning

What is CSL? The CSL program is designed to encourage community involvement through service oriented activities at non-profit organizations You must complete 100 CSL hours in order to graduate and we recommend 25 hours per year

Where Can I Complete Hours? Service hours must be completed with a non-profit organization and students must provide proof of non-profit status if the organization is not on our approved list – Copies are available in the Counseling Office Please see your counselor if you have questions about an activity

Activities That Count Churches Food Banks Hospital Volunteer Programs Public School Sponsored Tutoring Preschools & Retirement Centers Preschools and retirement centers are not always non-profit but hours will be accepted if your service benefits students and elderly residents.

Activities That Do Not Count Babysitting Tutoring students in their home Working in a doctor’s office Volunteering at a business that is for profit Note: Time will not be counted for lunch/dinner breaks or sleeping on overnight activities

How To Record My Hours Time cards are available in the counseling office and on our website Turn in the hours to your counselor soon after a project is completed Note: Hours must be submitted by the last day of school each year or they will not be counted TCHS teachers will record your hours on a separate sign-in sheet

Reminders about Community Service Activities Students are encouraged to complete more than the required CSL hours for universities/scholarships but only 100 hours will be recorded on the transcript Keep copies of your time cards for personal records and reporting purposes Family members may not supervise/sign for your community service activities Incomplete time cards will be returned to students.
