3 Knowing the essentials
You are responsible for… Your Learning Must get a “C” in the class to transfer; if fail or withdraw from class, may have to pay high school back for tuition and textbook FERPA Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act Textbooks See your high school regarding books Parking May park anywhere-no parking fees, stickers needed Location of Class Check your class schedule in the Student & Community Portal

4 Knowing how much time you need for college classes
Each course is weighted with credit hours and “contact” hours. Most non-lab courses are 3 credits AND 3 contact hours You meet in class 3 hours each week Class can be spread over 2 days/week for 1.5 hours each day or Class can be spread over 1 day/week for 3 hours.

5 Knowing how much time you need for studying
For 1 hour spent in the classroom each week… expect 2 hours worth of outside preparation (homework) One 3 credit course = 3 hours in the classroom = 6 hours/week of homework = 9 hours total class commitment/week

6 Knowing which semester schedule to follow
Classes at the college or online Fall Semester = 16 weeks (September – December) Winter Semester = 16 weeks (January – May) Summer Semester = 8 weeks (June – July) Classes at your high school during the day* We follow the high school calendar for trimesters or semesters Taking 1 course during the Summer Semester = the same class and homework time as 2 courses during the Fall or Winter Semesters *evening classes at high schools follow the college calendar

8 What about paying for college - NOW!?
No Financial Aid for Dual Enrollment/Concurrent Enrollment Students may be required to pay back their high school if received a failing grade Students MUST complete FAFSA after January 1st of their Senior Year to receive financial aid after high school graduation *You must RE-apply to North Central after high school to be a regular, degree seeking student so you are eligible for financial aid. Free Application for Federal Student Aid = FAFSA Application for federal grants and loans

9 Financial Aid WARNING Status Financial Aid INELIGIBLE Status
Knowing how important your success is Your Academic Performance as a High School Student Does Count Toward Meeting the Financial Aid Requirements! Financial Aid WARNING Status Student must meet the U.S. Dept. of Education Academic Progress Requirements: Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA Successfully complete a minimum 67% of all credit hours attempted Financial Aid INELIGIBLE Status Student did not meet academic progress eligibility requirements after Warning Semester. Financial Aid is withdrawn. Student is not eligible to receive Financial Aid until they meet the standards

10 Knowing what to do if things
change See your high school counselor to make changes-Must make all changes with form! 1st week, you can change classes without instructor approval 2nd week, you can change classes only with instructor approval After 2nd week, schedule changes are not possible After 2nd week, if you withdraw from a class you will receive a “W” on your transcript-must withdraw with form! If you just stop attending a course, you will receive an “E” on your transcript-only way to rid the “E” is to retake the course (remember-you may also have to pay for courses with a “W” or an “E”

11 Knowing what to do next Check your MyNorthCentral for your schedule
Make any changes through your high school counselor Check/Print off your final student schedule Come check out North Central to find your classroom Pick up your Student ID the first week of class Attend class and get involved! (you are included in all student activities!)

12 Knowing what to do after graduation
Next semester registration begins in November Seniors will need to reapply in January/February to attend after high school graduation Seniors will need to submit High School transcript/SAT scores to attend after high school graduation Seniors attending another college after graduation, you will need to request official North Central transcript to be sent Seniors should apply for FAFSA after January 1st, 2018 Seniors apply for North Central Scholarships by May 15th.
