Human Treasure Hunt Find someone who can tell you: Someone who lives the furthest from school? ____________________ A skill we need for co-operative learning? __________________ One group role is timekeeper. What are three more? _____________ _________________ _____________________ Someone from this class who has represented the school in a team sport? ___________________ Someone that can remember what their group name was from last week’s lesson?__________________ Someone who ate the same breakfast as you? __________________ Someone who knows what one of the S’s in the KISSES rules for co-operative learning? ____________________ Someone who has the same number of brothers and sisters as you? ____________________ The next person to have a birthday in this class? __________ _____ A person who knows an advantage of co-operative groups? ______ _ Someone who plays the piano? ____________________ Someone who wears size 9 shoes? ____________________

KISSES - Co-operative learning rules Keep with your group Include everyone-be nice Share ideas and feelings--No right or wrong answers Stay on task Everything is confidential Sixty cm voices--Only one person speaking at a time

Showing Tolerance Dos Let people do things their way Let people do their jobs, although you can offer to help Be patient if someone is doing their job more slowly or less skilfully than you like. They are doing their best in most cases Accept the contribution of everyone in the team. Be respectful when they make comments you don’t agree with.

Showing Tolerance Don’ts Don’t snatch things from others so that you can do what they are supposed to do Don’t criticise others or make putdown remarks Don’t use ‘putdown’ body language such as smirking, or raising your eyes when someone isn’t doing their job as well as you think they should Don’t imply that someone is holding the group back or handicapping them in some way If you think an idea that someone suggests is silly, don’t say so. Don’t take over and try to tell people how to do what they are doing.

Game: Bigger and Smaller Your team has 15mins to make as many smaller words as possible from the word: No words allowed that start with a capital letter, slang words, abbreviations Score one point per word. At finish take 5 mins to negotiate your team’s best 5 words Score ten extra points a word for any words not in another groups best 5 words co-operation
