Lifestyle factors that have an impact on health This is a booklet providing information and ideas on how to have a healthy lifestyle. along with explaining the benefits of changing certain parts of your life such as your diet, if you smoke or the amount of alcohol that you drink all to help you live a better healthy life.

Physical activity Recommendations and guidelines- it is recommended that adults (19-64) should do at least 2 and a half hours a week and the sports or activates can include swimming, tennis, running, cycling and many more. The sports can be moderate to intense the reason is in order to raise the heart rate to a level which gets you tired so your bones and muscles have to get stronger. As for children they should do more exercise because they are growing and need to stay in a regular schedule of exercise, at least 30 minutes a day in order to keep healthy. Health benefits- there are many health benefits when taking up any kind of physical activity, these include lower blood pressure, strengthened bones and muscles, better immune system and improved physical ability such as running fast or further, there are many health benefits and this is only a small list of them. Another big one is strengthening the heart as heart attacks are one of the number one causes of death around the UK. So having a stronger heart by doing physical exercise will reduce the chance of a heart attack. Psychological benefits- there are also benefits to the mind when doing physical activity, a big one is reducing stress as doing exercise clears your head so you feel more alert and focused on things in your life. Another is improving your mood there is a lot of evidence that doing exercise increase dopamine in the brain which Is a reward chemical which makes you feel happy.

Alcohol Recommendations and guidelines- it is recommended that men and women should not consume more than 14 units of alcohol a week. In pints that is the same as 6 pints of beer or 10 shots of vodka/whiskey. then for driving men should not consume more than 4 units of alcohol the night before driving in order to be able to be classed as safe to drive, for women its 3 units. Pregnant women should avoid drinking alcohol at all costs as t can affect the health and growth of the baby. Also when drinking to slow the time it's in the bloodstream and causes drunkenness, it is recommended that whoever is drinking should also eat something and lots of water as this can help with headaches the next day and if they going to drive. Risks associated with excessive drinking- There are many risks associated with excessive drinking a majority are disease related such as liver, kidney, bowel, stomach and heart. These can all cause death at later ages in their life, but with kidney which is the organ which filters toxins out of the blood which alcohol is, it can be too much for them and they shut down. If they shut down that person will have to go on dialysis for the rest of their life which involves being hooked up to a machine 3 times a day that filters your blood. If this an example of one of the many risks involved with excessive drinking it shows that you must be responsible. Then for driving almost 1/3 of the accidents and deaths on the road are alcohol related.

Smoking Health risks- smoking by far is one of the most dangerous legal drugs because of is addictiveness, a cigarette contains over 4000 different chemicals, many of which are poisonous such as carbon monoxide, cyanide, ammonia, kerosene and many more. They are put into cigarettes in order for them to not stop burning and for the addictive chemical nicotine to get into the bloodstream and into the brain quicker so whoever is smoking it will get addicted quicker. The main disease that smoking increases the chance of is cancer and that could be anywhere in the body which can start to spread into different organs creating a lot of pain the person with the disease. Another risk to health is that of others, since smoking used to be a social part of life in pubs when working in mines and other places, those that may not have smoked were at almost the same risk as those that are smoking since the smoke is lingering in the air and they are inhaling it. Lung disease is a disease which is also increased in the chance of getting, when someone smokes they cause the little hairs in the lungs that protect you against dust, germs and other things outside the body to relax and not work the same, which leaves you vulnerable to getting ill more and having a very bad chest infection that makes you have a bad cough.

Stress Health risks of excessive stress levels- Stress is normally scrutinised as a negative part of our lives which many of us have to live with. But stress isn’t always a bad thing, when we start to wake up hormones such as cortisol (stress hormone) are put into our bloodstream by adrenaline glands, this elevates our blood pressure and increases the amount of sugar in our body to fuel us for the day. Without stress we wouldn’t have the pressure to get things done. Then there is times when there are deadlines for work, bills and when things start falling apart is when stress will start to have a negative effect on your body and mind. When excessively stressed blood pressure increases which can lead to a greater chance of heart complications or heart attack, then the in the stomach nausea can occur along the pancreas having the increased chance of diabetes because a lot more sugar is in the bloodstream than normal. As for the brain headaches, lower feeling of energy and mental health problems (depression, anxiety) will have a greater chance of happening which can be very negative on the person with these simptoms.

Diet Benefits of a healthy diet- there are many benefits such as having a normal blood pressure which is good for the heart and then for the nutrients like vitamin c they help with the immune system that will decrease the chance of getting ill. When eating well with a balanced diet, the amount of cholesterol in the blood stream will decrease along with fat in the body, this means that there is less weight and less fat to get clogged in the heart which would have caused a heart attack. Effects of poor nutrition- poor nutrition can cause lots of issues such as scurvy when not enough vitamin c is ingested, this can cause gum disease, poor immune system and increased chance of stroke. Another effect on the body is a lack of iron in the blood, this can cause a person to feel very tired and lightheaded a lot of the time, as iron is used in blood when there is a reduced amount of iron there is less blood making the person have these symptoms. Then for a lack of calcium in the body this can cause weak bones increasing the chance of them breaking. Recommendations and guidelines- the body needs a certain amount of protein, calories and minerals a day in order to function correctly and be in a healthy state so there is the reduced chance of any diseases and to keep the body strong from any activates done such as running, rugby, football. (picture on next slide) Balance of good health- similar to the recommendations, the body needs a the correct amount of everything, places say you “should not eat sweets”, this is not telling you to give them up entirely because your body needs some source of sugars like honey, fruit in order to keep you energised. But eating too much can lead to diabetes and other diseases, but the diet is primary dependent on carbs and protein then fruit and veg.
