Presentation transcript:

In Year 4 we aim to succeed through hard work, commitment and fun. Succeeding in Year 4 In Year 4 we aim to succeed through hard work, commitment and fun. The teachers and TA’s will work closely together; sometimes we may swap classes for lessons or we may work as a whole year group. We will always try our hardest and expect the children to do the same.

Being Prepared There are many ways the children can prepare themselves for the coming school year: Be able to manage their time effectively – don’t leave things to the last minute! Look after their own belongings – be responsible for having what they need when they need it. Be ready to start each school day on time and with all the right equipment for that day.

Behaviour We expect the highest standard of behaviour at all times and encourage this by rewarding all our children. We show respect and kindness to others at all times. Your opinions matter! Our staff team are committed to providing the best possible provision for your child/dren. If you are not entirely satisfied with this, please talk to your child's class teacher in the first instance. If we have done something well, we'd love to know! Please remember that school staff are humans too. All we ask is for this to be respected both in our face to face conversations and on social media.

Equipment All equipment that the children need will be provided, they do not need to bring any extra into class where there is little space and it may get damaged. Children should continue to bring a school book bag - either blue or alternative appropriate bag with their reading record, reading and library books and any homework.

Coming In and Out of School   The school day will begin and end just as in Year 3. Please ensure your child arrives to school each day on time and prepared.

Creative Curriculum   We pride ourselves in providing the children with a fun, exciting and engaging curriculum which also challenges and extends their learning. In Year 4 we will cover six topics: Autumn 1 Meet the Ancestors Autumn 2 Mixing it up! Spring 1 Roman or Celt? Spring 2 Loose In School Summer 1 These bones were made for walking Summer 2 Moving Moments

Homework Homework is set to consolidate and extend your child’s learning. Children should spend about 20 minutes completing a task, and a maximum of 30 minutes. At this point, if the work is incomplete we ask parents to sign off their child’s homework so that we can assess their learning for misconceptions. They will be set homework in maths and English each week. We will provide the children with homework diaries in which to record the tasks given and when it is due. During the year we will also set some longer topic based projects which will allow children to follow their own interests.

In Year 4 children will still be expected to read at home on a daily basis and share books with adult involvement. They will be able to change their books as they need as long as they have completed any set reading tasks and their yellow reading record has been signed. This is an important dialogue between home and school as to how your child is coping with set books and if they are matched appropriately.

Website Our website – - contains a wealth of information about the school. There are also links to various websites which offer advice on how to support your child in different subjects and activities to do to support their learning. There may be times when homework is an activity on the website and the children would need to make a comment in a forum. School Spider update

P.E. The children will still need both indoor and outdoor PE kits. Indoor kit is still black shorts and white T-shirt, outdoor kit should be dark tracksuit, spare socks and trainers. During the winter we do suggest extra layers as we still go out in the cold! Drawstring nylon bags (with a carrier bag for dirty trainers) are the best way of storing kit – put their name on it and it should last the whole year. Kits need to stay in school for the half term. Please ensure kit bags, trainers, pumps and both kits are clearly labelled. Kit will be sent home every half term to be washed. It will need to be brought back into school on the first day of the new half term.

There are strict guidelines from Stockport LEA regarding the wearing of earrings during P.E. lessons. In Year 4 children are expected to take responsibility for removing earrings independently. If you wish your child to wear studs to school, please ensure that they are able to take them in and out or do not send your child to school wearing earrings. If you are thinking of allowing your child to have their ears pierced over the summer, please do it early then they will be able to remove them by September.   No other jewellery may be worn at any time during the school day. Swimming is in the Spring term and we follow Stockport rules for health and safety. This means no goggles (unless prescription) and caps to be worn if the children have shoulder length hair. Finally… We are looking forward to teaching your children an exciting curriculum in year four. Your support is an essential part of your child’s progress. Pease chat to us and keep us in touch with details or issues that may arise relating to your child Please involve yourself in your child’s learning.
