What does my learning look like in Year 3?
In Year 3, children are taught as a whole class. When they get to their independent work, a teacher or TA will then work with individual children or groups.

English: In KS2, English is split into several strands: reading, writing and SPAG. In reading, as well as decoding words, children will be working on their comprehension skills. Writing is split into some key sections: handwriting, spelling and composition. SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) becomes increasingly important in KS2 and is tested separately. Please ensure your child at home every day and make sure you write a comment in their reading diary at least three times a week.

Maths Maths is also split into several strands: number and place value, measures, and geometry including shapes, position and movement. At the beginning of Maths lessons, we spend some time with a focus on fluency. When the children begin their work, they will all start on the fluency questions before moving on to problem solving, reasoning and depth challenges. There is a big emphasis on children explaining on what they need to do to show they fully understand a concept.

Homework Each week, the children will be given either Maths or General Homework. It will be set on a Friday with the expectation that it is handed in by the following Friday. Sometimes, children will be given a longer, extended homework project to complete.

Parents evenings One in the Autumn term – after half term One in the Spring term In the summer term we write an annual report. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you would like to arrange a meeting outside of the designated parents evening times.
