2. Hello and welcome to Year 2
Should the fire alarm go off, the fire exits – left out of the classroom and out of the fire exit or through the main reception area.

4. Year 2
I am very pleased with how the children have settled into Year 2.
Teaching them to be more independent and work with pride.
High expectations in terms of presentation and outcome.
New curriculum wants them to become experts in their learning and children will practice the skills until they become experts.
All Year 2 children are expected to achieve the same objective but the way they get to this may be different from their peers.
This year the children will learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will move onto 3 times tables by the end of the year.
Try and make lessons fun.
Want all children to be happy in school, if worried about anything we need to know ASAP so we can deal with it and help them.

5. Timetable

6. PE Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning with Progressive skills
Need to have kit because the children have to do PE
Outside PE –can get very cold so the children can wear a tracksuit. Safer for the children to wear trainers outdoors.
PE kit can be kept in school during term time and will be sent home each half term to be laundered.
If your child uses kit for after school clubs can you make sure that they bring them back to school.

7. Homework
All children will have reading books throughout the week. These will be changed on a regular basis.
Spellings will be given each Friday and tested the following Friday. We will have 1 practise on a Monday.
MyMaths tasks will be set when appropriate and the children will be informed when these are available. Children will have 1 week to complete the task.
Additional tasks may be given throughout the year based on research for our History and Geography work.

8. Reading BEAR children read everyday
Guided reading on a Friday where they are taught reading strategies.
Read at home on a daily basis. Please read with your child and sign their planner. This will help them become better and more confident readers.
Children read with an adult in class-details of when are in planners already.

9. Uniform Children to wear full school uniform to school.
All children to wear black shoes to school.
Can you please ensure that all items of clothing has your child’s name in it so we can ensure they don’t lose items of clothing.

10. Snacks Children can bring a healthy snack to eat at playtime
Can bring bottled water to drink in class –but we have a filtered tap which they an use for drinking-cups provided.
Please do not send fizzy drinks with your child.

11. Jewellery No earrings or jewellery allowed.
Watches can be worn-encourage the children to tell the time.

12. How to help your child Help them with all homework.
Monitor their reading and write in the planner. Ask questions about what they have to check their understanding.
Encourage and support your child to practice their times tables they should be known off by heart and in any order.
Write any messages in their planners and ask your child to let the teacher know that you have written in there.

13. Worries!
If you have any concerns we have an open door policy. I will try to see you then and there if I can but if not I will happily make an appointment to see you ASAP.
