North America in 1750

Colonies Before 1750 The 13 Colonies had been left alone (Salutory Neglect) for a century to grow economically, religiously, politically and socially. By 1750 the colonists dreamed of moving west over the Appalachian Mountains into the fertile Ohio River Valley, which both England and France claimed. France was more concerned with trading fur, not establishing colonies in New France French fur traders had become friends with the Indians living in the Ohio River Valley The French built forts from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River to keep the English colonists out of the Ohio River Valley

Conflict in the Ohio Valley 1754 Virginia sent a 21 year old British militia leader named …… George Washington to force the French to leave Fort Duquesne. A small battle forced the French out and started the WAR. Washington then built Fort Necessity. The French and Indians attacked. He was set free and returned to Virginia a hero.

RWSL The French wanted to control the Ohio River Valley because _______________________________________ whereas the English were wanting to control the Ohio River Valley because __________________________________. The result of this dispute cause _____________________ ________________________.
