What are the Ways Government Systems Distribute Power?

Systems of Government https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL6eGwP0JTg&t=47s

Unitary Government – How does it work? A unitary government is what Britain was during the American Revolution; It was a nation united under control of one rule. There were no separate states or sections creating their own laws or taxes, just the rule of the government over the entire population.

Unitary Government All of the power lies in one centralized government https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goByqs nSXEk

Confederation Government When a group of people or nations form an alliance, it is called a confederation, allowing each member to govern itself but agreeing to work together for common causes. Perhaps the best-known confederation was the South during the U.S. Civil War. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktjFJKPYyx0

Confederation Government When a small group of nations/states come together to form an agreement to govern themselves

Federal Government  A federal government is a government system in which power is distributed between numerous regional (state/provinces) governments and a central, national government in rough balance A federal system of government is used by the USA, as well as numerous Latin American countries, Canada, Australia, and Germany.

Federal Government  a system that divides up power between a strong national government and smaller local governments https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhQsPxxL6pA

Citizen Participation of Governments

Autocracy Government  An autocracy is a form of government in which the political power is held by a single individual.  Today it is usually seen as synonymous with despot, tyrant and/or dictator, though each of these terms originally had a separate and distinct meaning (see their respective articles).

Oligarchic Government Oligarchy means the rule of the few, and those few are generally the people who are richer and more powerful than the others Usually the way an oligarchy works is that there is a group of people who are in charge, somehow. Sometimes they may be elected, and sometimes they are born into their position, and at other times you might have to have a certain amount of money or land in order to be in the council.

Democratic Government Rule by the people A democracy means rule by the people. The name is used for different forms of government, where the people can take part in the decisions that affect the way their community is run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bXLv5X73a4

Forms of Democratic Governments

What is a parliamentary democracy? A parliamentary democracy is a form of government where voters elect the parliament, which then forms the government. The party with the most votes picks the leader of the government.

Presidential Democracy A presidential democracy is a system of government in which also called an executive branch exist but is separate from the legislature. We elect a president to make informed decisions for us and to represent our needs in political forums

What kind of government does Latin America have? Most Latin American countries currently have multiparty systems in which any party has an opportunity to gain control of the government either individually or through a coalition with another party. The transfer of power takes place through elections.

Types of Government in the Caribbean

Constitutional Monarchy A country having constitutional monarchy will have a constitution governing the land and its people, guiding legislation or lawmaking and also ensuring liberty, equality. The country will also have a king or queen, mostly both

Parliamentary Democracy  Consist of a president, a prime minister, a cabinet and a house of assembly. The president has few powers; the prime minister wields the most power. The cabinet is appointed by the president on the advice of the prime minister.

What is a Federal Republic? A federal republic is a state which is both a federation and a republic. A federation is a state composed of a number of self-governing regions (often themselves referred to as 'states') united by a central, federal government. Such as Mexico and Brazil

Examples Three states explicitly describe themselves as federal republics. These are the Federal Republic of Germany, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. A close variant is the term federative republic, which appears in the full official title of Brazil. Not every federation is also a republic. For example, Canada, Australia, and Malaysia are federal constitutional monarchies with parliamentary systems.

Dictatorships A dictatorship is a form of government in which a person or a small group rules with almost unlimited power. The ruler of a dictatorship is called a dictator. Absolute monarchs (kings) are another type of ruler with unlimited power. But monarchs usually inherit their position. By contrast, dictators take power by force or by misleading the people. Cuba

Canada - Federal parliamentary democracy. A parliamentary democracy is a form of government where voters elect the parliament, which then forms the government. The party with the most votes picks the leader of the government. Prime ministers are beholden both to the people and the parliament.
