Welcome to Back to School Night! Mrs. Greenstein 2017- 2018

About the teacher… This is my 21st year teaching!  I have taught 5th grade, 3rd grade, 2nd grade, and kindergarten.   I graduated from California State University Fullerton with my bachelors degree, teaching credential, Masters in Education, and reading specialist credential. I am a mentor teacher for the district.

5th Grade Rules and Consequences Essential Agreement  (rules) will be agreed upon through a class meeting You will be notified of behavior and missing assignments on a daily basis through Jupiter Grades and/or your student’s planners- it is expected that students will record their homework in the planner and that parents will check the planner on a nightly basis.

Planners and HOmework Daily Homework should not exceed 60 minutes Students should read for 20 minutes per day Planners will be filled out and signed daily by an adult Red Circles notify of missing assignments Please address homework concerns as soon as they arise Late work will be accepted for only one week after the due date Some homework assignments will require internet access

Daily Schedule Our basic daily schedule looks like this: 8:30-9:00 PE 9:00-10:40 Math 10:40-11:00 Recess 11:00-12:00 Universal Access 12:00-12:50  Science/Social Studies/Language Arts 12:50-1:30 Lunch 1:30-2:45 Language Arts 

All Star Points Positive behavior is encouraged and rewarded! All Star Days Students earn 5 points per day Points are deducted due to behavior, missing assignments, and/or not being prepared At end of 9 week period, the points convert to a percentage

ALl Star Day Percentage All-Star Base Earned Activities Earned Description 90 – 100% HOME RUN All-Day Fun  Park Day (off-campus) + Movie 80 – 89% TRIPLE All-Day ON Campus Fun Stay on-campus ~ Game Day 70 – 79% DOUBLE Half-and-Half Day Half-Day Game Day/Half-Day “Regular School Day” 69 – below SINGLE Regular School Day Students will participate in a regular school day

Report card and Grades We have 2 grade reporting periods and 2 progress reports Parent/Teacher Conferences will be the week of October 23rd Graded assignments will be sent home weekly in Monday Folder Late work will be accepted for only 1 week 

Monday Folders Each Monday students will bring home a "Monday Folder" containing all the notices, announcements and graded student work from the previous week. Please remove all papers, sign the envelope and return it the next school day.

IB- PYP Transdisciplinary Themes Our regular district adopted curriculum will be integrated into the 6 Transdisciplinary Themes of the International Baccalaureate program (IB Program): 1. Who We Are 2. Where We Are In Time and Place 3. How We Express Ourselves 4. How the World Works 5. How We Organize Ourselves 6. Sharing the Planet

Curriculum New Language Arts Program called Benchmark Universe Reading Counts point goals  Universal Access Hour Go Math  Think Central Weekly Math Review

Science Camp September 26-29th Cost is $250.00.  Checks accepted until 8/25.  Only cash after that.  Cash payments accepted until 9/5. Snakes, Astronomy, Archery, Rock Climbing, Dancing, Hiking, Survival Skills and more! Students not attending camp, will participate in science activities at school with a substitute teacher. We are looking for a trailer to help get luggage up to camp.
