AVID Binders What is AVID? How will an AVID binder help? AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Lasselle Elementary will be using the AVID program to help students excel. How will an AVID binder help? The binder is one component of AVID. It teaches organization and responsibility in students through creating and maintaining an organized binder. What is in an AVID binder? EVERYTHING the students and parents need to keep updated on classroom and school events.

Homework Read a book at their level every night to meet their weekly AR goal. Create a book list/quiz number list in the “Spelling Words” portion of their agenda. ***www.arbookfind.com Students can only take AR tests AT SCHOOL. Each Monday their new AR goal will be written in the “Weekly Goals” section of their agenda. Practice Spelling Math Istation-Excellent resource for targeted ELA and Math practice

Parents…your homework  Class Dojo Check daily Discuss daily behavior with your child. Check Binder Agenda Notes home side Return to school side Listen to and read with your child daily and ask questions!!! Test Folder-Comes home on Fridays if tests were administered the week prior.

Growth Mindset ***Change our “I can’t…” to “I can’t…yet!” Research has proven that intelligence is not fixed. Instead, our brain acts like a muscle, the more we use it, the stronger and smarter it becomes. Studies proved that students who were praised for their intelligence (“You’re so smart!”) avoided challenges and gave up easily. However, those who were praised for their effort or for persisting through a challenge (“You really tried hard on that.”) embraced challenges and gave their best effort. ***See Handout
