Learning Meeting for Parents Thursday 17th September 2015

Who we are... Miss Haynes (Teacher) Mrs Ryan (EYE)

Baseline Assessment From September 2016 all schools will assess children at the beginning of Reception through a baseline assessment in order to track pupils progress from the start of Reception through to the end of Year 6. Many schools including Eastlands are trialling the new baseline this year All children have been assessed in the first week of Reception in Literacy, Maths and Communication & Language and the results of these tests will be sent out to you soon.

Learning overview Autumn Term 1 What do I know about me? Wow event: Local artist How am I the same? How am I different? What makes a family? Why do I look like I do? What I like best is...? Where in the world do my family come from? What can I do with my body?

Learning overview Autumn term 2 Is everybody’s home the same? Wow event: A walk around the local area What is your home like? What is a home like in the arctic? What can we do to be safe at home? Who lives in a house like this? (animals) What does every home have? Who lives in a castle?

Maths Overview Counting reliably with numbers from 1 to 20 Sequencing numbers Saying one more or one less than a number Adding and subtracting two single-digit numbers Solving problems, including doubling, halving and sharing Recognise and create patterns Exploring shapes Use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money

Literacy Overview Writing Using phonic knowledge to write words Writing irregular common words Write simple sentences Reading Read and understand simple sentences Decode regular words and read them aloud Read common irregular words Demonstrate understanding about what they have read

Phonics-RWInc New scheme introduced this year Children will be split up into mixed ability groups until October half term while the programme is introduced and behavioural expectations are established Children will then be assessed in October and we will group the children then based on their needs

Premier sports The children have two sessions of P.E a week, on a Thursday and a Friday. We have premier sports who come in to teach the children P.E once a week, delivering a high quality sport and physical activity programme. They also support staff in the curriculum delivery. The second P.E session of the week will be taught by the class teacher. Please ensure that your child has a P.E kit with them to keep in school.

School Uniform Boys Girls Winter: Eastlands Primary School sweatshirt or cardigan Grey long trousers White polo shirt (plain or with the school logo) or shirt Black sensible school shoes Grey socks School book bag/backpack with logo Grey skirt, pinafore dress or long trousers White polo shirt (plain or with the school logo) or blouse White socks or grey tights Summer: Grey shorts Maroon and white gingham dress Footwear: Children need to have an additional set of footwear to wear outside at play times.

Homework Homework in reception will include Maths and phonics. Maths will be sent out on a Friday to be handed back in by Wednesday in order for it to be marked. Phonics sheets will be sent out everyday in your child’s home-school communication book related to the sounds we have learnt each day.
