Class Greece (4) Mrs Hunter + Mrs Weeks Class China (5) Miss Proffitt Welcome to Year 1 Class Greece (4) Mrs Hunter + Mrs Weeks Class China (5) Miss Proffitt

Teaching Assistants Mrs Watkins is our Year 1 Teaching Assistant. She will be work across both classes supporting all of the children in small groups.

Transition…….. What does Year 1 look like? What do we expect?

Time line

Year 1 Weekly Timetable

Springboard At the start of the day children go straight to their ‘springboard’ tables and complete their morning activity. Springboard is between 8.50 and 9.30. This is a time for children to practice key areas of their learning e.g. reading, maths etc. It is also a time where interventions will take place – for any gaps in your child’s learning to be addressed.

PE days and Kit PE is on a Wednesday afternoon. We will be doing indoor and outdoor PE so please ensure children have weather appropriate kit (i.e. jumpers and tracksuit bottoms). Changing independently and being responsible for belongings: many children are still finding buttons tricky! Please do not send in laced shoes if your child is not able to lace their shoes independently. Long hair must be tied back for PE days. If your child has their ears pierced please make sure that they do not wear earrings on their PE day or can take them out themselves. NAME LABELS!!

Communication Should you wish to discuss anything with us we will be available after school . Parent consultations will take place on Wedsnesday 11th and Thursday 12th October. If your child attends a club, including Wise Owls please send a letter in outlining which day this is. If your child is going home with someone else please send them in with a note in the morning to let us know.

Numicon Numicon packs are available from the office to support your child’s learning at home.

Homework Homework will be in the style of project work. Children are encouraged to read their reading books with an adult every night. Reading Records. From Term 2 the children will have spellings or letter sounds sent home to practise and learn. We encourage the children to use Phonics Play (link available on the Bailey’s Court Website) to practise key skills and develop their learning at home through interactive games and activities.

Other Ways To Help At Home Counting in 10s, 2s and 5s Counting forwards and backwards from a given number Looking at money e.g. when at the shops Encourage interesting vocabulary such as describing words Lots of reading! Number Bond Challenge

Other key points Book changing day. Tuck shop money or fruit alternative. Water Bottles. (Water only please. Squash is not allowed) Parent helpers. Uniform and jewellery. Show and Tell – only special items e.g. swimming badges Morning bell
