Expectations Students are on time Students come to class with homework completed Students participate in class discussions and ask questions Student behavior does not interfere with learning Student reads a free reading book for at least 30 minutes each night

Language Arts Resources myPerspectives Students will have a consumable workbook to take notes and complete examples in Homework will be assigned from workbook or a worksheet or within their three-subject notebook Novel Studies---support myPerspective units Reading will be done within class, but may be assigned as at-home work if not finished in class. Holt Language Nightly grammar practice Interactive Notebook---supports all aspects of ELA

Class Structure ---Will vary depending on day, lesson, unit--- Daily Warm-up---Focus Board Homework check Carry over lesson from day before or begin new lesson Practice in class---individually, group, whole-class Homework Library check-out every two weeks (either at the beginning or end of class)---SSR if time allows

Homework Policy Assigned daily---Monday through Thursday. Occasionally assigned over the weekend or for an extended amount of time Due the next day unless specified NO late work accepted 30-45 focused minutes to complete Posted on board and team website and written in student agendas each Monday 5 points per assignment If possible, time will be given at end of class to start assignment

Absences Student’s responsibility to obtain the information and assignments they missed---check online agenda (website) and student agenda. Call or text a friend! For each day absent, the student has one excused day to complete homework and assignments for full credit When possible, please let me know if student will be absent ahead of time

Parent Role Encourage your child to try, even if it’s hard, and to keep trying. Encourage and help your child become an independent thinker. Encourage your child to ask questions. Stay on top of behavior and grades. Check assignment calendar regularly---online agenda/student agenda. Take an interest in their homework. Help them study. Get them to school! Attendance is extremely important! Everyday is something new and different from anything they have ever seen before.
