Microsoft PowerPoint PowerPoint is a presentation software program that is part of the Microsoft Office package Using PowerPoint, you can create screens that effectively incorporate colorful text, images, graphs, tables and movies Animate text and illustrations and set up transitions between slides Print out materials to distribute when you are making a presentation

PowerPoint Presentations Terminology Graphics application program used for creating presentations, speeches, slides, etc. Slides Each screen that is displayed during a presentation Layout The way things are arranged on a slide Slide Show View Takes up the full computer screen. You can see how your graphics, timings, movies, animated elements and transition effects will look during the actual show Transitions A set of transitional display effects that move from one slide to the next Animation Animations are used to add a special visual to text or an object Text Box Use text boxes to place text anywhere on a slide Templates Templates give the presentation a fully designed, professional appearance

Background Choose a solid background color or from a variety of gradient, texture and pattern fills

Transitions Transition effects between slides

Animations Animate text and images on your slide with a variety of entrance, emphasis and exit effects

Slide Show View your slide show to test the animations, transitions and how the layout appears in full screen view. Set up your show to have each slide display for a certain period of time before it automatically advances to the next slide.

PowerPoint Activity Snack Treat PowerPoint Presentation

Note to teachers I have been using this PowerPoint for about 5 years and with over a dozen classes. It has worked effectively for a variety of learners. Every time I introduce this lesson and show students slide 4 (their list of crazy options), there is laughter and excitement! I hope that you and your students enjoy this lesson.

Students You will be selling a protein bar/granola bar. However, these protein bars are not like traditional bars you would find at your local grocery store or convenience store. The following is a list of 8 options. These bars will be made of unique ingredients and/or allow people to do unique things. Choose one option from the following list…

Choose one of the following topics… Create a PowerPoint presentation to sell your snack to customers Made of insects with extra grasshoppers Made with grass trimmings from the lawn Extra chocolate, ice cream, candy, the most delicious thing in the world Health food – made with everything that is good for you Made of Garbage Made with air – no calories, lose weight Allows you to grow as tall as a giraffe Allows you to shrink down to the size of an ant

Putting together your PowerPoint You will be putting together an 8 slide presentation. Slide 5 includes the topic information for each of your slides. Remember that you are pretending to sell this protein/granola bar to potential customers. Be creative! Think outside the box. Include pictures, transitions and custom animation to grab people’s attention.

Topic information for each slide Title Slide and Product Name Product Description (use the description from slide 3 to get you started) Why should people buy it? Where will it be sold? Tech Sharing PowerPoint Activity #2 The Best way to learn is to teach. You will be sharing something that you have recently discovered online related to technology. It could be a website, blog, video(s), social media site and/or something new in on-line news. If you can not think of something to share begin by doing some research. Go to websites like www.mashable.com. You will be putting together your information into a 5 slide PowerPoint presentation. Note: the marking scheme indicates all areas that will be evaluated.

Teachers Many of my technology lessons and website investigations have come from doing this Tech Share exercise with my students. Students are constantly online and have great ideas to share if given the opportunity. These ideas can become your future lessons. For example, my IBM (bringing the 5 senses to computers) activity was inspired by a grade 9 girl who handed me a slip of paper recently with the website address and told me to check it out!
