DUAL CREDIT

DUAL cREDIT MISD and Midland College cooperate in a dual credit enrollment plan whereby students may earn both credit for high school graduation and credit for college hours simultaneously. Midland College will be at MHS in the Spring Semester to present Dual Credit information for 2017-2018. Parents whose student will be taking dual credit classes must attend one of the sessions offered this Spring before the student can go through the Dual Credit Enrollment process. Follow our Twitter and Facebook pages for information regarding Meeting Dates and Times @couns_MHS Midland High School Guidance and Counseling

DUAL cREDIT Availability of dual credit classes is determined by teacher qualifications. Current MHS Dual Credit Courses include: AP English 3 AP English 4 AP US History PreAP PreCalculus AP Calculus BC Speech Students enrolled in specified MISD courses during the regular school year will also be given the option of registering with Midland College for the corresponding college course. Upon successful completion of the course, both credit for high school graduation and credit for college hours will be awarded for Midland College Credit. Students MUST be enrolled at Midland College and pay to be eligible to receive credit upon successful completion of the course. It is the parent/student’s responsibility to verify with future universities to determine whether credit will be accepted.

DUAL cREDIT Students must pass the Reading/Writing and/or Math portion of the TSI prior to enrolling in Dual Credit Courses. A Midland College Placement test is also required for all Dual Credit Math Courses.

TSI (Texas Success Initiative)

What is the TSI assessment? The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program designed to help students be successful in college. It includes assessment of students before entering a state-supported college or university. All students must take the TSI Assessment before enrolling in college for the first time, unless they are specifically exempt by law. (You may be exempt based on your SAT or ACT scores.) The TSI assessment consists of three portions: Mathematics Reading Writing Certain minimum passing standards must be met on the TSI before a student may enroll in college-level coursework.

Where can you take the TSI? Midland High offers the TSI periodically through out the school year. Next available testing date is November 12th in Room 124. Please register online on the Midland High School website by November 10th. Cost is $29.00 and must be paid to the bookkeeper. School or picture ID required. Allow at least four (4) hours to complete the TSI Assessment Results are printed immediately upon completion. Please keep a copy for your records. MHS does not keep copies of your TSI scores. A Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA) is REQUIRED before you can take the TSI Assessment: www.midland.edu/pre-assessment MHS may offer the TSI assessment on campus later in the year. Information on that will be distributed as it becomes available. @couns_MHS Midland High School Guidance and Counseling
