Community College (2 years) Complete a vocational training program (fire academy, child care, x-ray tech, mechanical/automotive programs…) or Spend two years earning 60 units (general education requirements), transfer to Cal State / UC / private university based on Community College academic status High School Diploma needed

College or University (4 years) Public Colleges: 10 UC’s exist. Admission more difficult 23 Cal States exist. Some more difficult to enter than others Private Schools: Broad range of Admission Standards and Policies

Vocational, Technical and Career Colleges Offer specialized training in a particular industry or career. Possible programs of study include: culinary arts firefighting dental hygiene medical-records technology.

High School Classes Colleges Look For https://bigfuture. collegeboard Take at least five solid academic classes every semester. Start with the basics, and then move on to challenging yourself in advanced courses. Aim to get “C” or higher in all of your classes.

English (Language Arts) Graduation Requirement: Pass English every year. College Requirement: Take English every year and pass with at least a C-.

Math Graduation Requirement: Pass 2 years of math. College Requirement: Most colleges want students with three years of high school math (with at least a C- grade). The more competitive colleges prefer four years. Integrated Math I (or H) AP Calculus Integrated Math II (or H) AP Statistics Integrated Math IIII (or H) Integrated Math IV

Social Studies Improve your understanding of local and world events by studying the cultures and history that helped shape them. Graduation Requirement: Pass 3 years of social studies. World History U.S. History U.S. Government / Economics College Requirement: Take 2 years of social studies and pass with at least a C-.

Science Science teaches you how to think analytically and how to apply theories to reality. Graduation Requirement: Pass 2 years of science. College Requirement: Most colleges want students with three years of high school lab sciences (with at least a C- grade). The more competitive colleges prefer four years. Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science & Advanced Sciences

Foreign Languages & The Arts Solid foreign language study shows that you're willing to stretch beyond the basics. Most colleges require at least two years of study in the same foreign language, and some prefer more. Research indicates that students who participate in the arts often do better in school and on standardized tests. Most colleges require a full year in the arts. Good choices include studio art, dance, music and drama. Graduation Requirement: Pass 1 year of Art OR 1 year foreign Language. College Requirement (with min. C- grade): Take 1 year College Prep Fine Art AND Pass 2 years of foreign language

Additional Graduation Requirements In addition to core academic classes you will need to pass: 1 semester Health 2 years of Physical Education 80 Elective Credits To graduate you need to have 225 credits completed. Reminder – Courses required for graduation must be taken in RUSD to count toward graduation (per Board Policy).
