6th Grade Routines, Procedures and Expectations Ms. Ellis

Entering the classroom Enter the room quietly so you don’t disturb others trying to work. Quietly take out your pencil and agenda. Fill in the information from the board. Take out your notebook and get started on your GIG.

Attendance Each group will have an attendance monitor. The attendance monitors will let me know who is absent in each group.

Restroom No one will be permitted to leave the classroom within the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes of class. Only one student may use the restroom at a time. Excessive bathroom use will have an affect on citizenship grades, and access will be restricted.

Quite Signal When the teacher raises her hand in the air, students will stop talking, raise their hands, and give their attention to the teacher. The goal is the have the room quiet in 3 seconds. When the teacher says “Believe it” the students will stop what they are doing, say “Achieve it”, and give their attention to the teacher. The goal is the have the room quiet in 3 seconds.

Movement in the classroom/Sharpening pencils The students will remain in their seats while the teacher is teaching and/or giving instructions. Once students are working independently, they will be able to move around the classroom to sharpen pencils or get tissues.

Labeling and turning in assignments Students are expected to write their name and date on each assignment. When turning in assignments, students will place their assignments in the center of their group. One person will place all assignments in the basket that matches their period. If you have a missing assignment and are sure you turned it in, check the No Name basket to see if it is there.

Transitions/Finishing work early Students are required to learn songs, participate and sing songs while moving during activities. At the end of each song, students will have completed given task and will be ready to move to the next set of instructions. If students finish independent work early, they are expected to take out their free reading book and read silently.

If you are absent It is the responsibility of the student to check their period’s file and notebook for any handouts or notes in the classroom when they return from being absent.

Missing/Late work Late work will be accepted, but will be penalized on a case by case basis. Please make sure you speak to me before and make arrangements with me if your assignment is going to be late. No late work will be accepted during the final week of any quarter/semester

Electronics Electronics will be used in class for a variety of activities, however cell phones, tablets etc. are to be stored out of site unless permission from the teacher is given. Unapproved or inappropriate use of these devices will follow a progressive discipline action.

Dismissal Students are required to keep their area (desk and floor) in classroom clean. This area must be clean before the class is dismissed. Students will remain seated until the bell rings and the TEACHER dismisses the class.

Classroom participation supports the academic environment of the class. Rarely off task. The student arriving late is infrequent and absences are excused. Attitude is positive and respectful towards teacher, students, and property. Follows classroom rules. Needs Improvement “N” Completes some assignments, including homework. Participation is rare or unproductive. Not consistently on task in class. More than five times and/or three unexcused absences. Attitude can be negative. Does not consistently follow classroom rules. Unsatisfactory “U” Completes few assignments, including homework. Does not participate in learning activities. Frequently off task in class. More than eight and/or three unexcused absences. Disrespectful and negative attitude diminishes the academic and social environment of the class.
